Pheles

Origin

Pheles was once a trickster who toyed with the life of a mad alchemist named Georgius, who is bent on creating an Unrestricted Spell which would grant him eternal life. She later fell in love with Johann, the son of Georgius, and saved him from being sacrificed by his own father and killed the alchemist. She then take care of Johann, and later he also confessed to her that she loves him, and they became a couple. To be together forever, they made a Treasure Tool, the most precious treasure in Guze, a Treasure Tool that can grant eternity to the Mystes bearing it: the Reiji Maigo.

Due to the Reiji Maigo, she doesn't need to consume other humans' Power of Existence. She can get enough Power of Existence to survive from Johann without him being in danger of disappearing.

Then they were confronted by the "Destructive Blade" Sabrac, and they lose to him. He wounded Johann, and Pheles sealed her lover into the Reiji Maigo. She was unaware that Sabrac had also placed the Silver into the Hougu simultaneously. The Reiji Maigo was then lost, so now she searches for him everywhere with a Power of Unrestrained “The Wheel of Wind” (Kaze no Tenrin), a guiding beacon that becomes a duplicate of her own when the target is found.

Creation

Pheles is created by Noizi Ito and designed by Yashichiro Takahashi. She has no notes regarding any inspiration used by the author or the artist. Phles first appears in Shakugan no Shana light novel 12 and episode 12. She's voiced by Marina Inoue in Japanese.

Character Evolution

Appearance

Pheles has long green hair. Her hair is very long and it reaches her thigh, and she let is unbraided. Some of the fringes of her hair sweep up on opposite directions on each side of her face, with others hanging loose. The rest hang loosely on the middle. She wears a tight-fitting suit with dark brown and black color and something looks like accessories on her shoulder that can release flame. She also wears a pair of boots, a dark brown scarf, and a pair of open-finger gloves.

Her flame color is Amber.

Personality

In the battle, she shows fierce, merciless, ruthless, and mighty. But when it comes to her lover Johann, she turn into the most undeniably in love. She speaks Johann's name gently (actually the only thing she thinks is her lover).

Relationship

1. She loves the " Eternal Lover" Johann, and they're a pair of couple, both known as the "Engaged Link".
2. She's friend with Wilhelmina Carmel. She found Wilhelmina confronted by Sabrac, and she helped him. After that, Pheles, Johann, and Wilhelmina travel together.
3. She was once targeted by Sabrac, who wants the Reiji Maigo.
4. She gave Giralda—a treasure tool that can summon her by eating the existence of the user— to Yoshida Kazumi.

Plot

Ability

• Kaze no Tenrin: Kaze no Tenrin (Revolving Wheel of the Wind) is a seeking spell which searches for a particular person or thing. It appears to be a very unique spell; the spell itself transfers from person to person via touching. When reached target, it creates a copy of Pheles herself that would acts as a beacon for the real Pheles to come. The spell utilizes by only using small amount of Power of Existence so it uses the Power from person hosting the spell at that moment, and eternally revolving around the world until it meets its target.

• Inverna: A spell that creates a storm surrounding her targets. This storm hides one's presence from others, effectively allowing stealth attacks.
