Welcome to Count D's Pet Shop, a place where hopes, dreams, and wishes come true. But, as always, there is a price to be paid...
In the city of Los Angeles, in the part known as China Town, there exists a pet shop owned by a man named D. It is said that, besides the usual fare, you can also find every imaginable creature in the world, if you are willing to pay. Meanwhile, hot on D's trail is the detective Leon Orcott, who may be biting off more than he can chew... 
Pet Shop of Horrors ( ペットショップ オブ ホラーズ , Pettoshoppu obu Horāzu)  was written and illustrated by Matsuri Akino, premiering in Missy Comics DX in 1995.

Publication History

In Japan, Pet Shop of Horrors ran monthly in the magazine Missy Comics DX in 1995, ending at 36 chapters, not including several side-stories, which would bring the total to 41. The first volume of the series was published in February 1995, with the final volume being released in August, 1998.
Akino later released a sequel called Shin Pet Shop of Horrors (New Pet Shop of Horrors), set in the fictional Neo Chinatown of Japan. The first tankobon volume was released in January 2005, with the most recent volume being published on August 6, 2010.
Tokyopop published the series in North America from June 17, 2003 to January 11, 2005. They have also licensed the sequel series under the name Pet Shop of Horrors: Tokyo. The first volume was released on February 12, 2008, with the most recent volume being released on February 1, 2011.


The enigmatic owner of the shop. His father and grandfather all share similar features to each other. D is very fond of sweets, and can often be easily bribed with them. He also cares for all of the animals under his care, and will not tolerate it if his clients do not obey the terms of his agreements.
Leon Orcot
The detective hot on D's trail. He's hot-headed and energetic, but people don't believe him when he talks about the nature of the animals in D's shop.
