I used to watch G4 a lot. When I say a lot, I mean it was on my TV 24/7. I watched no other channel. "Attack of the Show" used to (they might still do it) do a segment every so often called Fresh Ink. Fresh Ink was mainly about comics but they threw a little manga in from time to time. The only one I can remember vividly was one about horror manga. Parasyte was the first one featured. To me, it looked very intriguing and I should check it out. It took me about a year after that particular segment aired; but I finally did and I must say I was not disappointed.
A quick run down of the plot:
An abundance of alien parasites invade an unsuspecting Earth and start infecting the masses. By doing so, they essentially kill the victim and take over their minds. Also, they must consume human flesh to survive. Shinichi Izumi (the main protagonist) is asleep while all of this is occurring. When he awakes to something in his room, he is shocked to see a worm like creature lunge at him and enter his arm. Thinking quickly, he ties his arm off with his belt; trapping the parasite in his arm. Since the parasite could not make it to his brain it has taken over his arm. Now Shinichi must cope with an alien controlling his right arm most of the time.
Sounds confusing? It is at first. As I read into it I couldn't help but feel lost. I learned that reading the next volumes helped. Anyway, that is the only fault I found with this particular series. It's definitely not for the easily confused. Although that is true, with intriguing characters, amazing story, and "edge-of-your-seat" suspense, it's easily a classic.
