A popular outlaw, sci-fi action, space western. The series is often compared to Cowboy Bebop and was in fact released only 1 year before Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star was written by Takehiko and published by Shueisha, It is based 150 years in the future and follows a rag tag team on a spaceship that is able to travel faster than the speed of light called the Outlaw Star. The manga was adapted into an anime series by Sunrise Studios and directed by Mitsuru Hongo, was first shown in June 1998 and totaled 26 episodes, Then later it was released by Bandai Entertainment and shown in January in 2001 but sadly was a edited version on Cartoon Network's Toonami Block and later Adult Swim.
The Plot
Roughly based on Treasure Island and even some of the characters have very similar names to the original story. Outlaw Star mainly revolves round two characters Gene Starwind the captain and Jim hawking the computer hacker. They were two friends who would take many different jobs and crossing paths with a wanted outlaw, they ended up with an advanced star ship named the outlaw star and an android called melfina. Many missions take them to different places and they soon set out to discover of mythical tresure of outlaw legend hidden in the galactic leyline. On the way, find other crew memebers searching for the galactic leyline for similar purposes, which include an assassin and a ambassador who make up the crew of the outlaw star.
