Ouri is one of the main characters of Shikabane Hime
Ouri first sees Makina in the orphanage in which he was raised. She was unconscious and appeared to be dead. Ouri then hides behind a statue and watches as his brother, Keisei, seems to magically bring her back to life. Two years later, Ouri moves out of the orphanage. While moving his things, he sees Makina again, and again she looks dead. He goes over to try and help her and while holding her he notices that she's breathing but has no heart beat.
Ouri is always getting lead to places by a mysterious cat and on a few more occasions, Ouri inadvertently comes across Makina. It doesn't take long before he finds out she is a Shikabane Hime and is killing Shikabane. Ouri also finds out that his brother is her contractor monk.
Ouri starts meeting other Shikabane Himes, like Itsuki and Minai. Minai saves Ouri from an attacking Shikabane. After the Shikabane is dead, Minai takes Ouri's cellphone because it is considered evidence. Minai offers to buy Ouri another cellphone though and they set up
Itsuki and Ouri
plans after school to go buy one. While buying a phone, Minai's contractor monk is stabbed and killed. Without their contractor monk, Shikabane Hime can sometimes turn into a normal Shikabane and therefore must be killed. After Minai is attacked by other Shikabane Hime and escapes, Ouri takes her to the only place he thinks he can hide her, the cafe where he works. He leaves her in the care of the owners, Sadahiro Mibu and Akira Tooka. Unbeknownst to Ouri, Sadahiro is actually an undercover monk and Akira is his Shikabane Hime. Minai is then killed before she turns into a Shikabane.
Ouri "meets" Nozomi
Later, Ouri meets a girl at school named Nozomi Kasuga. She is very interested in death and thinks Makina is beautiful because she is dead. Ouri tells Nozomi that she should stay away from Makina for her own good but she ends up getting mad. She then finds Makina and tells her how Ouri isn't right for her and how he knows nothing about the true beauty of death. Makina tells Nozomi that Ouri actually knows more about death then she will ever know. After that, Nozomi seems to have a crush on Ouri.
After the death of Keisei, Ouri becomes Makina's new contractor monk. Ouri is not technically a monk yet and must train in the
mountains with Itsuki's monk, Takamasa Sougi, and his master, Kanechika Umehara. While this is happening, Makina is chained down in the purification chamber. When Ouri hears that a Shikabane group called the Seven Stars is going to attack the chamber, he leaves to help her.
Later, Nozomi gets cursed by one of the members of the Seven Stars and he tries saving her, though he ultimately fails, and she dies. When Ouri fights the Shikabane who killed her, the Shikabane reveals that Ouri was born from a Shikabane, which makes him the son of a corpse and explains why he is so comfortable with death. Ouri's mother killed lots of children, including the Shikabane that Ouri was facing. All the other children who died fused to become the cat that had been leading Ouri to places all the time. Makina eventually shows up to help Ouri take care of the Shikabane.
Ouri then helps Makina fight Hokuto and the other members of the Seven Stars for the rest of the series.
