In Japanese, otaku means people who are obsessed over something. Usually, it is in reference to anime, manga, and video games. In the western world, the word is frequently designated to a fan of anime, manga, video games and/or Japanese culture.
The big difference to note here between what you'd call an, "enthusiast," and otaku is our consumptive behavior. And the pursuit to materialize and have contact with our ideals. Hence thus, things we collect, a PC of the highest level of performance, figures, manga, doujin, and all manor of things that show our passion from the Japanese term moeru, "burning" (heart). Also their is a strong means towards community, to gather and exchange information in our already, "niche" genre. And soon a means becomes a purpose, and a purpose means we strive to be innovative, break beyond conventional and continue/ pass on the revaluation that is.........Otaku.
