One Piece Film Z is the twelfth movie of the One Piece series, and the first to take place post time skip.
One Piece Film Z is the twelfth film in the One Piece series that is based upon the original One Piece manga created by Eiichiro Oda. The announcement of the movie was made on November 13, 2011 on FUJI TV as they were airing the previous One Piece Film: Strong World. This will be the second movie that Eiichiro Oda has played a major hand in it's production, the first being Strong World. The only part of the story that is known is that it will take place during the post-time skip New World Era.
The One Piece Film: Z movie was originally released on December 15, 2012 at 300 screens in Japan. The movie broke the opening day record for the One Piece franchise series with ¥750 million ($9 million USD) box office and an audience of 600,000.
As with Strong World, a series of TV special was added to the regular anime series, and was the direct prequel to the events of the movie. In the time line it was set between the Fishman-Island and Punk Hazard arcs, as they were shown in the anime continuity; and the first episode aired on December 2, 2012. The episodes were all titled "Z's Ambition!".
A One Piece anime special prologue titled "One Piece Glorious Island" was posted on NOTTV Service website from December through January for download to mobile devices.
