Norman is leader of the Petalburg City gym. He uses normal type Pokémon and is also the father of May and Max.
Norman is the father of May and Max and the husband of Caroline. He is also the leader of the Petalburg City gym. Ash met with May in Littleroot town; together they traveled to Petelburg so Ash could meet her parents. Norman saved May's Torchic from Team Rocket. In a later episode, Norman faced off against Ash using a Corphish, Grovyle and Torkoal. Ash defeated Norman, much to the displeasure of Max.
