A young man named Raizou and his three kunoichi companions seek to restore the fictional Katana household to its former glory by finding and marrying a wealthy and/or powerful girl.
The story takes place during Japan's "Warring States" period (a.k.a. the Sengoku jidai), where a poor boy named Raizou is treated like an outcast for the horn in the middle of his head. The only thing he has to his name is a small house and a mortuary tablet containing the spirit of his dead mother. After rescuing a female ninja (Kagari) from a nearby river, Raizou discovers that he is the heir to the Katana household, and that this ninja happens to be sworn to protect him. After his house is destroyed, Raizou and Kagari journey across Japan to find a wife so that the Katana bloodline can make a comeback.
Along their journey, Raizou picks up new allies like the gun-toting Kisarabi and the strangely alluring cross-dresser Hinemaru. However, they also find themselves contending with a man who seeks the final destruction of the Katana household, a man named Kabuki Seigan. Seigan seeks to create and rule over a world full of women, and uses some special "surgery" to control others and give them superhuman powers.
