One of Trigun's most important characters, Vash's best friend
Wolfwood is raised by an abusive guardian, who he ends up killing. Later he is taken in by Chapel a member of the Gung-Ho-Guns, an organization of assassins, who trains him to be his successor. He meets Vash while he is stranded in the desert. They seem to get along since the beginning but Wolfwood’s ideals differ from Vash’s: he holds the idea that he must always kill his enemies. After spending time with Vash he comes to accept Vash’s ideals, Peace & Love. One of his major concerns is to raise money for the children in the orphanage he runs, trying to keep them from suffering as he did in his own childhood
In the anime eventually he fights against Chapel, but following Vash’s ideals he spares his life. As Chapel is being controlled by Legato, he forces him to shoot and kill him. Wolfwood spends his last moments reflecting on his life and making a final confession before dying. Vash takes his gun as an act of honor to use it in his fight against Knives.
In the manga he tries to kill Chapel and takes his place in the Gung-Ho-Guns in an attempt to kill Knives. As he fails to do so, he is then sent by Knives to protect Vash until he is able to meet him. After Vash is captured, he rescues him, and and once again faces his battles master and his childhood friend, Livio, this time around his able to kill both of them. Having overdosed on the regenerative vials, he soon dies while talking to Vash.
The gun he carries around it’s called the Punisher; it is a cross-shaped gun which contains a rocket launcher and two machine guns.
