Next to Wolfwood, Kuwabara would definitely have to be up there with my favorite supporting characters in anime, but on topic, the next part of the arc has been ripped by multiple animes.....and I'm not sure why.
YU-YU HAKUSHO is a series that always felt to me as if it turned out as something completely different than when it started. So quickly it went from this introspective journey to shonen tournament mode.
Sans DBZ, death often has a stronger impact in manga and anime. When someone dies, they're gone and it effects characters in profound ways. Death in your larger comics are an absolute joke. Many times, they don't even take their own death's seriously. Writers often drop comments about people coming back eventually. It's stuff like that which turned me off of some of the bigger publications.
Hiding the eyes in anime is often used as a story tool to hide the reactions of your characters. It's used when you want a character's reactions to remain unknown.
I don't mind alterations in story for dubs in most cases, as long as the subtitles are offered uncut. They at least provide the option for those who want it. My biggest problem is in when manga companies use all the anime alterations for the manga publications. That's what happened to my favorite manga series DETECTIVE CONAN. The US manga publishers used all the European names the US anime created, and it killed the manga. It's ridiculous that in a series that takes place in Japan that none of the heroes are even Japanese. It's utter "white washing". We will never get an uncut version of the manga the way the story was intended becasue of the US anime alterations. The only way I can read the real story is through scanlations, and I hate that. It deserves so much better.
@FoxxFireArt: That's Togashi's style, to rapidly change things up. The first arc was different from the second, was different from the third, was different from the fourth, was different from the fifth. It's seen nowhere better than in Hunter x Hunter, where each arc might as well involve new, different characters.

I didn't mention that to exclude YYH. This series is another example. I just didn't mention it since it was a given.

You should. The new anime just aired episode 40 this past weekend, and the show is on Crunchyroll. There's an older anime that I think Funi brought over, but it's forever unfinished since it ran out of manga. Togashi started HxH a few years after YYH, but something is wrong with his health (never been revealed, I think) that is causing him to take massive hiatuses. I think the longest one yet is like 2 years or something.
@rubberluffy: Hopefully he didn't catch any "Spirit Diseases" :)
It's funny when you think about hiatuses in anime creation. So many times, anime is pumped out there that even a hiatus of a year makes you persona non grata. Makes me wonder how large the market still is in Japan for anime content, is the audience still that voracious?

Dude's been working on the HxH manga since 1998 (Weekly Shonen Jump) and it doesn't even have 400 chapters yet. There's been some chapters that SJ has published that are literally sketches. I think SJ gives Togashi a lot of leeway, moreso than you'd think anyone else would get.
I do wonder how much the anime business brings in compared to the manga business. Manga is easier to digest, you can do it on your own time, faster, cheaper, etc. I've seen post stuff about how One Piece manga sells crazy numbers when a new volume is released.
