You'll Want To Know These Guys: Meet 1212 Entertainment

A new Hollywood production company focused primarily on anime adaptations? Hmm!

 You know, this image works perfectly for almost everything that we post here.

I just got an e-mail this morning from Hollywood producer Joshua Long, who some of you may recognize as being a name attached to the upcoming live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop starring Keanu Reeves. In the e-mail he gave me a heads up on his newly renamed company 1212 Entertainment, which will focus primarily on adapting popular anime, manga, and game titles from Japan, as well as some prominent French comics.

While Cowboy Bebop will remain a production under 3 Arts Entertainment, Long tells me we'll be hearing some news in the near future: "we'll have a lot to announce soon," he said. They've also taken on Elizabeth Grave, an assistant from Groundswell Productions, whose past credits include 2008's Appaloosa and Smart People.

It's not a very lengthy update, I know, but it's important and pretty interesting. What anime titles would you like 1212 to announce adaptations of?

If their idea of translating manga and anime into live action movies in the image of Dragonball Evolution and casting Keanue Reeves as Spike. Then this company needs to be stopped from slaughtering any series. The only way these people should be known for is being on a wanted poster for crimes against manga and anime.

I still believe that live action movies based on anime can never, ever work. Most anime plot lines could just never work as an hour an a half to two hour movie.

@InfiniteGeass: What about anime that are feature film-length to begin with? =P

I think that live-action films based on anime CAN be good, just like adaptations of comic books CAN be good (Dark Knight) and adaptations of novels CAN be good (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).

They're mediocre or bad more often than they're good, but every once in a while someone works one out really awesome. I'm confident that eventually one of these will turn out awesome.

Kara no Kyoukai would be an awesome live action movie series. Actors wouldn't be too difficult since there's tons in that age range in Hollywood and there's bound to be someone who could do the roles well. The problem is they'd have to make at least 5 (films)...
 Aside from that the only things left would be the usual worries (destroying the plot, crappy acting, bad casting, pathetically low production values, etc.)

oh!  I thought the Keanu Reeves thing was speculative...  He's actually signed on?  cool!

Lupin would be nice...Our fanbase needs that one, and you don't have to overpay for FX to do a good job. And you could always cash in on Anvil's success by trying to remake Detroit Metal City...Spriggan's an easy one, too. And I know Tank Girl did horribly, but I'd like to see an LA Dominion one of these days.

@Arjuna: He's actually one of the major proponents of the film; it probably wouldn't be getting made without him. ^^;

@GATS: Mmm, I'd love some Lupin, but he's such a cultural icon in Japan, I'm not sure how well he'd do in the west.
