Yesterday I mentioned the new Kimba the White Lion/Jungle Emperor Leo anime special, which is set to air this summer. There are some new details available today, though, from Fuji TV (the station airing the special).
Goro Taniguchi-- you might know a couple of the dinky little shows he did, like Code Geass, Infinite Ryvius, S-CRY-ed, and Planetes –is involved in the project, probably in a director or producer capacity. And perhaps bigger than that? Illustration god Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D, etc) is also working on it.
Interestingly, this will also be the first time that Kimba has been set in the 21 century, although traditional Tezuka themes of friendship and the environment will still be featured.

Let's just say that... Disney's studios kinda liked Osamu Tezuka's work, if you know what I mean... The story is different, but you can obviously see the similarities...
And, god, Yoshitaka Amano! This will be good!
