Yep, Of Course It Is: Final Fantasy IX Out Soon on Playstation Store

Because the other two PSN re-releases of Final Fantasy games were a coincidence.

It seems crazy to me that, after the previous Japanese and American re- releases of Final Fantasy VII and VIII, anyone would have believed that the 9th installment of the franchise might have been only playable in the Land of the Rising Sun. Surely, game players know by now that Square Enix, a company whose reputation for re-releasing their games MULTIPLE TIMES is legendary in an industry already prone to releasing the same games year in and year out, would give consumers an opportunity to pay for the game again...right?

Well, fans of the last game in the PlayStation FF trilogy need not pray to Shiva any longer. The Playstation Blog has just confirmed what everyone should have already guessed: Final Fantasy IX is coming to the U.S Playstation Store in the near future.  There's generally been a two to three month gap between the Japanese and American PSN re-releases for FFVII and FFVIII, so I imagine we'll be sneaking Princess Garnet out of the castle in July or August. Final Fantasy IX was actually the first game I played in the FF franchise, so for all of it's flaws and awkward plotting, it still holds a special place in my heart. On top of that, it all makes for a good stylistic entry in the series, as it's fantasy-tinged-with-steampunk aesthetic hearkens back to the style of the original games in the franchise.

Will YOU be able to resist when Square plays it's nostalgia card this summer?

I'm kind of looking forward to this game a bit. FFIX is the only one in the series I never got around to finishing.

@ethan:
An intern, eh? That's a bit enviable to be there to write.

@danielm:
No reason to go around marking yourself with a Scarlet Letter.

@MattBodega:  Oh sure just rub it in, you know where is a reccesion right now? Finding work is hard, but you just have to rub your employment in the faces of us unemployed members. jerk. JK

Finally, really looking forward to this game. The main character and villain are pretty terrible but it's still the most playable of the PSOne era Final Fantasies.

Dig Deeper into Square Enix

Originally a video game company called Squaresoft expected its flagship game, Final Fantasy I, to be the last game produced. Later, competitor Enix (noteable for Dragon Quest series) merged with Squaresoft, Enix stocks were valued at 72% of a SquareEnix share while Squaresoft owners enjoyed 1 whole share.
