Yen Press Scores Haruhi-chan, K-On!, And More

A licensing bonanza from Yen Press!

Yen Press has announced a collection of new manga licenses that we'll start seeing in 2010, and the first one, which I'm hugely excited about, is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan! I've mentioned a few times that this manga series, a gag strip about chibi versions of all the characters (which also has an anime adaptation), is considerably more popular in Japan than the official manga adaptation of the novels-- because it's new content! So, I'm thrilled to get to read some more Haruhi adventures. Definitely.

 K-On!
 K-On!
I think a few of you will be excited to hear about this one, too: K-On! Yes, the manga that inspired the popular anime about four girls who start a music club in Japan. I wonder if it'll be as popular without its own soundtrack? Hey, that'd be a really cool release promo item thingie, hint hint hint.

Bungaku Shoujo, the light novel series about a girl who eats books and a boy who's actually a talented writer but who has lost his passion, and Fumi Yoshinaga's Not Love but Delicious Foods (originally Ai ga Nakutemo Kutteyukemasu), thus proving that pretty much every manga publisher in the US will eventually get a Yoshinaga title, are also among the licenses.

And finally, Goldilocks and the Seven Squat Bears, which is not Japanese, but looks really cute.

Okay, let's hear it. What's first on your wishlist?

Awesome... I just started watching K-On and so far i've been loving it... but you're right I don't know how it would transfer to paper, without music...

Haruhi is cute as a chibi!
But Yuki looks better!

K-on is what I will get. I'll probably pass on Haruhi Suzumiya-chan and the other.

Everything but K-ON! sounds interesting. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan and Bungaku Shoujo sound interesting. Need more info on Not Love but Delicious Foods.

K-ON! I would think it's be fun to read even without the music. Look at BECK. And Yen Press is picking it up! Now the question is will featured in the magazine or released in actual book form first. I'd take up Haruhi and Bungaku Shoujo. A girl who eats books--sounds like something I would do....

Most excellent news! I was hoping that Haruhi-chan would make it over and am not disappointed. Wonder if the anime will follow soon.

@Lan:
Except BECK >>>>>>>>>> K-ON! Also BECK actually had a story about the hardships of a band trying to break out from the underground and the drama with having personalities clashing especially with Ryuusuke's egotism, along with the high school drama that Koyuki gets involved in. K-ON!'s story is about a group of character archetypes trying to get a band together despite the tendency of half of them to blow off actually practicing, throw in the obligatory beach scene and a bunch of moe moments and that is K-ON!

(Note this is based on only having watched the K-ON! anime)

@Chibi_Kaji: Ohhh, I don't think it'll be too much longer...

Not so sure how well K-On can work as a manga, but I'll probably give it a shot.
