Yamato Flick Drops Sawajiri for Kuroki

A quick actress-swap for the live-action Space Battleship Yamato film.

Back in July I believe we broke the news that the planned live-action Space Battleship Yamato movie had scored a lead, SMAP member Takuya Kimura, during my liveblog of the Noboru Ishiguro and Yukio Kikukawa panel at Otakon '09. (I could be wrong; as I was liveblogging at the time I have no idea when ANN's report went up in relation to mine, nor if anyone else was blogging it at the same time.)

But there was no word yet as to who would be the Yuki Mori to TakuKim's Susumu Kodai (or, for you Star Blazers fans, Nova and Derek Wildstar). Apparently a while ago it was reported that Erika Sawajiri, who took a break from the entertainment industry in early 2008 after some mildly erratic behavior, would get her comeback starring as Yuki, but word from Tokyograph is that Sawajiri has been replaced with a newer star, Meisa Kuroki.

Kuroki has been in a number of films, although most of you will know her as the voice of SWORD agent Vexille in the film named after her. She also starred in Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of the manga Crows, titled Crows ZERO. Kuroki has also released an album which received, as far as I can tell, pretty lackluster sales-- but those films, particularly Miike's, are nothing to scoff at.

I know some of you follow Japanese actors more than I do-- any thoughts?
