Winter Watch: Waiting in the Summer #6

In this episode: The group leave for Okinawa, the "Love Pentagon" becomes a "Love Polygon", and fan-service. I just have one question for you: Why are you not watching this anime?!

Welcome to Winter Watch, a look at the latest anime season. In Please Teacher's third series, confessions have been made, love triangles have been established and now our alien protagonist has competition for her earthling counterpart's affection.

Run Time: 23:44

Warning: This article may contain spoilers. We recommend watching the episode HERE first.

Remember back on episode three's review I mentioned the one-sided love pentagon? Let's bring it up again...

Fun in Okinawa.
Fun in Okinawa.

In the last episode, Tetsuro told Kaito about Kanna's feelings for him. Whether it was to sabotage or help him is still unknown. Ichika overheard and in this episode she tries to brush it off. Of course, this is not an easy feat because she is no longer competing for Kaito's affections against just Kanna. Manami, Tetsuro's older sister, gives her brother tickets to Okinawa after her own vacation plans fell through. Tetsuro invites the rest of the group, and Remon uses this as a perfect opportunity to continue filming their movie. This impossible love story is already complicated by this point of the episode, but it gets more complicated when Kaito's childhood friend, Kaori Kinoshita, arrives on the set of their independent film.

Tetsuro and Mio
Tetsuro and Mio

After a lot of scenes involving bikinis and fun in the sun, Ichika and Kanna confront Kaito about Kaori. At the same time, Mio and Tetsuro talk about Kaori's friend Chiharu Arisawa. Tetsuro hints at being interested in her (they even exchanged phone numbers) just when Arisawa arrives. Also, Remon arrives with news: Kaori and Chiharu will be helping out with their movie. The next day, they continue filming their movie about the alien girl who is on the run from MiB. Kaori pulls Kaito aside and confesses her feelings to him, but he rejects her. At the same time, Tetsuro is ambushed by Chiharu while Mio is close behind. Just as Chiharu is about to make a move on Tetsuro, Mio stops them in panic revealing her feelings toward Tetsuro. Meanwhile Ichika catches Kaori and Kaito alone.

So this one-sided love pentagon becomes a "love polygon"! (Mio and Chiharu like Tetsuro. Tetsuro likes Kanna. Kanna, Kaori and Ichika like Kaito. While Kaito likes Ichika.) As you can probably tell by now, things get complicated. Aside from the humorous soap-opera plot, there were bits and pieces of this episode that raises more questions about Ichika's origin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Ichika say she came to Earth "looking for her"? Could it be that "her" is Mizuho Kazami from Please Teacher!? When Arisawa fell onRinon, did Ichika's ship get fixed?

We are halfway through the series and it looks like everyone’s feelings are being put on the table. I think that Remon might know more about Ichika's alien origin than she's letting on. Rinon continues to be his cute self providing comedy in just the right moments. The more I watch the more I enjoy this series. If the creators keep it up this anime might become a favorite of mine.

The all to familiar child-hood friend. At least she's has energy unlike most child-hood friend.

Uh-oh two crazy girls appear. Some genuine drama being built up, but could've done without those two new girls. Best episode so far, imo. Annndd now Kaito has a small harem.

I'm really loving this series much more than I thought I would, a lot of stuff happens in the next episode.

Dude, you totally forgot to talk about this scene (pictured) it was hilarious! I'm really getting some good laughs out of this series, it does a really good job sprinkling them between the heavier scenes.

I can't decide if I like Ichika or Kanna more, I think at this point I'm leaning towards Ichika, but I still feel so bad for poor Kanna. Kaito knows how she feels and he's pretty much ignoring it completely.

@metalsnakezero: True.

@AURON570: I didn't even think of it that way... It is like a harem.

@Daniel_Newton: In my case, I sometimes root for Kanna and other times I root for Ichika... You know what I root for Rinon and that's final! Rinon's scenes are the funniest in my opinion.

Take the prominent elements of Onegai Teacher and mash them with the typical elements of romantic comedy. About all I'm getting out of this show thus far.

I'm rooting for Kanna, even though that seems like the least likely outcome.

@SergioB: Didn't Kazami end up alone at the end of Onegai Teacher? Don't write Kanna off yet!

@sora_thekey: No idea. I've never watched it.

"Love Polygon[...] fanservice[...] Why are you not watching this anime?"

Maybe it's just me, but those are not compelling reasons to watch an anime.
