An alien girl is playing an alien girl... Coincidence?
An alien girl is playing an alien girl... Coincidence?

The first day of summer has arrived and Kaito, along with his friends, are ready to begin filming a summer movie. Ichika and Kaito seem more comfortable with each other's presence which makes it easier to get on with the film. Remon, being the director, writer and camera-(wo)man, came up with a movie about an alien who arrives on earth and... [Enter adlib here]. With nothing else to add to this synopsis, Remon decides that everybody should make it up as they go along. Tetsuro becomes a killed Man in Black and Kaito accidentally becomes the main male protagonist. At the same time, Mio and Kanna work behind the scenes in an abundance of jealousy towards their respective romantic competition. The day of filming is done with plenty of moments that made me laugh enough to redeem past (comedic) mistakes.

"Tanigawa likes you!"

After the successful first day of filming, the second day of summer is rained on. Ichika and Kaito stay indoors but Kanna decides to go scout the competition for Kaito's affection. The trio spend the day together eating and talking about personal matters like family and Ichika's strange cooking skills. During their talk, Kanna brings up a taboo subject, how long will Ichika stay for? Kaito realizes that his feelings for his roommate are futile, since she will end up leaving someday, something that Ichika realized in the last episode. The embarrassed Kanna leaves on a guilty fit to "accidentally" find Tetsuro being showered on. Kanna and Tesuro share a past, which is why she asks for help with her crush. Instead, that night, Tetsuro reveals to Kaito Kanna's feelings towards him.

I love it when a series' episodes periodically get better. Waiting in the Summer is an excellent example of that. If you go back to read my thoughts of the first episode, you'll see that I was not convinced with the direction of this show. Now, either I am becoming complacent or it is actually getting much better. This episode brings up a lot of questions though. Say that Remon's plot for the group's summer movie is not a coincidence. Is it possible that Remon is aware that Ichika is from another planet? She did ask that Rinon would play Ichika's ship's interface, something that the creature actually is. By the way, Rinon continues to be the cutest thing ever! Why is it that Tetsuro is so oblivious of Mio's feelings? Why is Kanna so oblivious of Tetsuro's feelings? Why is Kaito so oblivious of Kanna's feelings? Why does Mio spend her nights naked in her room with a stuffed, giant panda bear?!?

Verdict

This show is finally at the point where I eagerly await the following episode. I think I might be enjoying this series better than Please Teacher!, which is saying a lot. From Remon's creepy laugh to the love-pentagon, I can honestly say, I am enjoying the heck out of this anime. I just need more Rinon in my life. Maybe a plushie?

I'm not on the up-and-up on anime news, so I had no idea about this anime before watching the first episode. Wasn't expecting much, but thought I'd give it a try regardless.

However I quickly realized this was a spiritual successor to the Onegai series, and immediatly perked up. So far, this has been rather enjoyable, though I still much prefer Onegai Teacher. But it has potential - it might end up being on par with Onegai Twins. Though I have to say, Twins added a pretty good twist on top of the usual romance plot that made it stand out from the crowd, while this is pretty much Onegai Teacher reimagined.

@Dunchad: There is a chance that this is not just a re-imagined Onegai Teacher but rather a spin-off. Ichika mentioned in this episode that she has three sisters... Maybe the other two sisters are Mizuho and Maho.

Hmm, I hadn't even considered that. That could definitely be the link she has with Earth and the reason she is there looking for that one specific place. Interesting.

That possibility coupled with the mystery of Remon definitely makes me eager to see what happens next.

@Dunchad: Remon is definitively a mystery, Taking what you said, there's the possibility that the reason she is looking for that one specific place because her sisters were there before. Remon could have a tie to Kei.

What's that Xzibit meme again? Something like "yo dawg, I heard you like alien girls in your anime, so we put an alien girl playing an alien girl in a movie in your anime, so you can like alien girls in your anime, while you watch an alien girl playing an alien girl in a movie in your anime."

One comment on crunchyroll suggested that Mio is a closet nudist. I doubt there will be any real explanation given for why Mio does that though. Remon epitomizes the sneaky controlling director. In layman's terms, she would be the one on top. Since this is a short series though, I doubt they're going to delve into Lemon's characters that much beyond what's already been shown. But I am still waiting to be surprised.
