Winter Watch: Recorder and Randsell #3

The girls talk about boys and size. Not in that order...

Welcome to Winter Watch, a series of articles taking a look at some of the shows in the winter anime season. Atsumi and Sayo take center stage in this episode as they discuss... "girl talk".

Episode 3: Sayo and Atsumi
Summary: Atsumi and Sayo discuss their age and ideal man.
Air Date: Jan. 19, 2012 / Available on CrunchyRoll for Free Users: Jan. 26, 2012
Run Time: 3:00

Sayo's ideal man
Sayo's ideal man

Atsumi and Sayo spend their lunch time talking about size and guys. After talking about the level of Atsumi's cuteness due to her height Sayo brings up the guys topic. Sayo expresses her interest in tall masculine guys and Atsumi seems to be comfortable with any guy who is taller than her. Of course, when Sayo takes it upon herself to vividly describe her ideal man, it becomes a bit too apparent she is describing Atsushi, Atsumi's younger brother.

I guess when each episode of a series is three minutes long, the contents can never drag on too much. Atsumi and Sayo's conversation was fast paced and to the point, unlike most of the anime I am used to. Usually, when there is a scene that involves two people having a conversation there is a lot of sighing and repetition. Here it's all over before you know it. This episode seemed to have been an attempt at humor by parodying shojo anime. Yet this was not as engaging, for me personally, like the last episode that focused on the sibling love Atsumi and Atsushi share.

This anime's strength is definitively its endearing aspects and this episode didn't have much of that. Still, now that Sayo has hinted at showing interest in Atsushi again, I am curious to see how Atsumi would handle her best friend hitting on her younger brother.

I totally see Sayo falling for Atsumi's little brother XD

This anime is fun to watch, I'd like it better if it was longer though, and less choppy. At least the Sayo's apparent crush seems to be something that is reappearing.

Totally agree! It has the potential to succeed as a normal-length series.
