Who's Going to the New York Anime Festival?!

I'll be there... in style.

Know the name... know the face... but, above all, know the logo.
Know the name... know the face... but, above all, know the logo.

Knowing that the Anime Vice community includes lunatics from all four corners of this world and from across all seven seas… I’m sure some of you must be dwelling in the Big Apple that is New York City. As such, many of you are probably aware that the Javits center will be hosting NY Anime Festival this weekend.  So the question remains…

WHO'S GOING?!?!

I’ll be in attendance for all three days of the show in what promises to be probably one of the busiest weekends of my life. While I’ll be there mostly to be signing copies of my comics at Archaia Entertainment’s booth (as the festival’s merged with the New York Comic Con,) I’ll also be covering as much of the anime portion as I can. So you can expect another mountain of cosplay photos.

More importantly, I hope I’ll get to run into some of you while I’m on the convention floor. If you see me, don’t hesitate to say “Hi.” Or “konichiwa” if you prefer. Babs from Comic Vine is actually putting together a staff/users meet-up on Friday night that I'll be going to. She’s still working out the exact time and location, but check in on her blog to find out the details as they get nailed down.

AX2010 was one of the best times I’ve had all year and I can tell you that I’m serious stoked to be going to this, my second anime convention ever. Will it be the best of both worlds, or two worlds colliding? Stay tuned for my coverage to find out.

I'll be going to the comiccon on friday and sunday, but as long as my ticket to one works for the other I'll be there too ^^

I'll be going. Got my camera ready and money to spend. And if I see you Tom, I'll just stab you in the back a few time as a greeting (Ok, maybe not but I will greet you).

I don't really care about cosplay photos. I would much like to see someone in the Anime Vice staff commit journalism. I'd be more interested in someone asking the people at FUNimation about any plans for the One Piece Strong World movie. I want to buy that movie and see it, but they haven't made any announcements. I don't want to watch the fabsub version. I'm willing to wait for FUNimation to release it officially, but I'd like to hear a date.

As far as VIZ. I would like someone to ask their people there why they insist on censoring the mangas and removing as much Japanese culture as possible in major titles.
VIZ censored Fullmetal Alchemist manga by removing the cross Greed was on and made it a nondescript tablet he was strapped to. In this they dramatically altered the original work.
VIZ removed the word "God" from the entire Skypiea arc in One Piece. That was six volumes of edits.
VIZ changed the villains Gin and Vodka to "Melkior and Kaspar". Apparently, these characters could not be named after liquors for VIZ's version so they changed them to some characters from the Bible.
VIZ censored Naruto when Rock Lee accidentally drank sake in the manga and it was revealed he is a master of the "Drunken Fist". The VIZ version had Rock Lee drinking "private potion" and Rock Lee was a master of the "Potion Punch". That was such an utterly childish alteration.  Drunken Fist is a real style. "Potion Punch" sounds more like a Koolaid flavor.

They claim they don't want people to use scanlations, but insist on censoring manga. I don't want to buy the VIZ version of series. I want to buy the actual stories the author intended in an English format. VIZ did not write these stories, and VIZ did not draw these manga. Still, they are changing the artwork and the stories.
Scnlations are the only source right now for the actual story,

Hell I would just like to attend a big Con! I've just been to one of 2 tiny ones we have in STL. What I would like to know from FUNi is what they are doing with Phantom

Tom I hope to see some video coverage as well from there. Still think you should give away a signed copy of your book for AV's Free Friday.

I envy you...next year I shall be attending bothFanimeCon 2011 in San Jose and at the moment, I am 90% sure that I can attend the Anime Expo in L.A. as well.
