What was the Best Selling New Pokemon Game?

Today, Silver is the first place.

Ladies and Gents, It's over. Put down your flags, return to your homes. The battle is won. The NPD has posted a list of the 30 best selling video games in the first fiscal quarter of the year(January to March, for all you non-financial types out there). We now know what was the best selling 2nd generation Pokemon game remake. And the results will BLOW YOUR MINDS.

That's right: Pokemon: Soul Silver has TROUNCED it's different-colored-but-actually-totally-identical-counterpart Pokemon: Heart Gold. The Silver version was the second best selling video game released in the quarter, while the LOSER version was only the 10th best selling video game during the same period.

This is a victory for all consumers who saw the new Pokemon game on shelves, looked at the two different covers of what are, essentially, identical games and said aloud, "Hey, that shiny, sparkly bird thing isn't doing it for me. But that silver Dragon-bird thing? I'm feelin' that one."

To celebrate this tremendous achievement, I hereby deem it that everyone who bought a copy of Pokemon:Heart Gold be forced to spend the next three months wearing a gold T-Shirt. That way, we can tell who the losers are. This will make those losers much easier to find when we want them to carry us on their backs. And if you Heart Gold purchasers don't like being human rickshaws, then maybe you should be buying the game with the cooler cover art.

Where do you folks stand on the podium? Are you a Silver Winner? Or a Gold Loser?

Thanks to Kotaku for the story.

Sorry, it sounds like someone's being a Silver Douche about buying one over the other.

Lugia is much better that other bird...that is why I bought Pokemon Silver back in 2000 instead of Gold version. I don't have a DS, so I can't play Heartgold or Soulsilver yet, but I would be getting Soulsilver if I had one.

Lugia pities those who did not choose SoulSilver for the DS.

I happen to like Ho-oh. It is one of my favorites out of the Legendaries. Also if I remember right, Gold was best selling over Silver 10 years ago.

Really, does so much celebration has to be said over a Pokemon game. Both games are the same mostly give or take some things so it means that they are both great games. It just that now Silver is the favorite color compare to Gold 10 years ago. Also 5th generation? As far as I know, HeartGold and SoulSilver are part of the 4th GENERATION. Somebody needs to get their facts straight.

@TRMI
Generations are not determine by the games. Generations are set by the release of new Pokemon for the games and end when a new set of pokemon are made.

1st Generation
Red/Blue/Yellow

2nd Generation
Gold/Silver/Crystal

3rd Generation
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
 FireRed/LeafGreen

4th Generation
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
HeartGold/SoulSilver

TRMIon May 11, 2010 at 12:21 p.m.
@ShadowKnight508: i don't really count those additional gen

and that list was just to prove how many generations are there

 Definitely SoulSilver for me.

As for how the generations work, I go by generations of Pokémon, so if a game comes out with no new Pokémon in it it doesn't count.

Generation 1 - Red/Blue/Green, Update - Yellow
Generation 2 - Gold/Silver, Update - Crystal
Generation 3 - Ruby/Sapphire, Update - Emerald, Remakes - FireRed/LeafGreen
Generation 4 - Diamond/Pearl, Update - Platinum, Remakes - HeartGold/SoulSilver
Generation 5 - Black/White

Another reason I don't count the remakes as a new "generation" of Pokémon games is because it doesn't use a brand new engine, just a modified engine from the previous games.

I bought Soul Silver too, in this particular game, choosing one over the other is just a question of preference, if i'm not mistaken in the 2nd generation when both came out we could catch both during the game.
It only proves the popularity of Lugia over the other bird.

HG and SS don't count as forth generation games, as IT was a remake...
