What Anime does Japan Want on Blu-Ray?

What do you want on Blu-Ray?

The Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA) in Japan is starting up a survey that wlil run from August 1st to 21st to determine what the most-requested Blu-Ray releases in Japan are, and they've got 15 anime they're checking on. (It's already August 1st in Japan, but the page still says to wait for the survey to begin.)

I'm not sure whether the voting will be open to those outside of Japan, so I went ahead and included the Japanese names so you guys can participate-- and you'll want to, because in order for a Blu-Ray release to come available in the US, the hi-def material has to be available in Japan. That doesn't guarantee that a Japanese release will lead to an American release, but it's a good first step.

So...aside from Gurren Lagann (which I figure is obvious for most), what would you vote for, if you could only pick one? And what do you think should be on the list that isn't? I'm tempted to vote Haruhi, but I'm not sure if Blu-Ray would make that big a difference for her, so I'd vote Valkyria Chronicles.

As for what's not on the list...I'm surprised there aren't more classics, like Sailor Moon (and don't give me that “it'd look like crap,” that hasn't proven true for the Dragonball Z Blu-Ray releases).

Your turn!

Let's see...I'd choose Gurren Lagann, Valkyria Chronicles and oh wait...WHAT? Kara no Kyoukai! YES YES!

TTGL, True Tears, and KnK are the only ones even worth considering an HD release, since the rest barely have any detail that'd make it worth it. And yes, I mean Valkyria Chronicles as well. I dunno how many of you are still watching that, but that show has had too many instances of QUALITY to be worth it imo...

Kara no Kyoukai Bluray though, if there is ANY series worth it's weight purely in animation quality and would benefit at all from an HD release, it'd be KnK.

Here's just a few examples from the latest film of how it stands up.

Even relatively simple scenes have a lot of detail with both lighting and design.

And don't even get me started on special effects...

I would buy:
  • true tears
  • Valkryia Chronicles
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
  • Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsy (if it's the original first season episodes, not the "new" additions)

@damswedon: They made an anime adaptation that aired... umm... this spring?

Haruhi if I could only pick one though my say on the matter is pointless since I have no blu-ray player. Kanon would look fabulous in blu-ray.
