Revelations continue as Bossun finds out that he's not alone in the world. After the last two tear-jerking episodes, I expected this episode to continue telling goofy stories about the club. Boy was I wrong! We are in the present now, two years after Bossun found out the truth about his parents' death, and during a school festival our protagonist learns more about his heritage. The man who delivered him (Dr. Tsubaki) seventeen years prior to this approaches Bossun and lands the biggest news you could possibly imagine... Yusuke Fujisaki has a twin brother.
When I wrote the Weekly Sket Dance article for episode 40 I mentioned the persistent joke that paired Bossun and Sasuke in sibling terms. You called it Halberdierv2, Sasuke Tsubaki is Bossun's twin brother. The doctor who delivered both of Haru andRyosuke's children kept Tsubaki without Akane's knowledge of there being two births. An announcement I wasn't expecting-- I'm sure a lot of you were though.
Here's the moment I express my regrets. It seems to me that every time I talk about Sasuke I have something negative to say, but bare with me here. Akane's personality is very lively which seems to have rubbed off on his son. At the same time Tsubaki's father is very linear, until he breaks down and cries, which could be the reason why his son is sometimes uptight. I can understand the differences in personality and similarities in enthusiasm. That emotional drive is all in Ryosuke's genes. The one thing I don't understand is the reaction. Why does it seem like Sasuke takes the news more lightly than his twin did two years prior? I am willing to bet this story isn't over...
Most of the episode encompasses the doctor's flashback. This leaves little space for some sibling reactions. I really wanted more of that. I expected Bossun to arrive with his father's letter to show to Sasuke. I expected to see Akane's reaction when she found out her best friends had twins. While I didn't expect some sort of automatic embrace between the two new-found brothers, I secretly wished for Tsubaki to break into tears in front of his twin. This doesn't mean that the moment lacked emotion, or that it was not tender enough. It only means that I hope there is more to come related to this new-found family relationship. Switchand Hime seemed excited about the news though.
