Weekly Query: Pokemon vs. Digimon

MONSTERS VS. MONSTERS!!!!!

Welcome to the first installment of the Weekly Query. Like it is stated in the title, this will be a weekly feature where we will pose a question for  the users, to answer.

Pokemon is one of the most popular anime franchises. First broadcast in 1997, the anime is based off Satoshi Tajari's video game series. Focusing on Ash Ketchum, the anime has had over fourteen seasons and showcased over 600 creatures called pokemon. Pokemon are usually animal-like companions with special abilities that allow them to battle in competitions. Just like animals would in the real word, some pokemon live in the wild while others are domesticated.

Digimon, contrary to Pokemon, has not focused on just one character or a group of characters. Every single season of this franchise has introduced a new set of characters and for that matter a new set of digimon. Broadcast in 1999, the series has creatures, called digimon, that live inside a virtual world appropriately named the Digital World. There are over 500 digimon and certain ones are chosen to help a human partner in their adventures. Opposed to that of Pokemon, it is only one digimon per person.

These two anime franchises are frequently compared, and although there are similarities, they are not precisely the same. The title name of both series include a suffix that means "monster", and the creatures in both series have extraordinary powers.
Pitting them against each other, the topic is now relinquished to you. Which of these two franchises do you prefer: Pokemon or Digimon?

I'm for Pokémon with games and manga but I'm for Digimon when it comes to anime. Pokémon is has the best designs when it comes to the original generation. Though Digimon has the better designs when it comes to to the whole digimon series.

IMO Pokémon wins

i like digimon just for the anime and that was season one im not sure what happened with the other seasons. i like pokemon for the games, anime, cards, and thats it! pokemon wins

The only seasons of Digimon that I REALLY cared for were seasons 2 and 3. Other than that it's mediocre.

Pokemon occasionally has great animated battles, but most episodes are mundane.

I don't feel strongly about either, but I would probably choose Pokemon. Is there a way to implement a poll into this? It would be much more useful.

anime digimon with ease

manga digimon but close

Pokémon, mainly down to the simple reason that I was never into Digimon. It never appealed to me like Pokémon did when I was a kid.

Although I did get into this one Digimon game on the PlayStation with my friends, can't remember which one it was now. But you'd train your Digimon up, save them onto a memory card, put your card in the second slot on someone else's PlayStation and battle against theirs. It was pretty good.

One thing I have learned from this article is that there are almost as many (give or take a hundred) Digimon as there are Pokémon, I had no idea there were that many. With Pokémon it's a given since they come up with a new set of 100 or so for each new generation of the games.

Looks like Pokémon is winning this one.
ssjsupermanon Feb. 11, 2011 at 4:41 p.m.
@Newten: I cant give a specific  number sense it increases but pokemons should be over 500 digimon should be well 800.
Daniel_Newton moderator on Feb. 11, 2011 at 4:43 p.m.
@ssjsuperman: Wait, what? Digimon has MORE than Pokémon? That's nuts.
Though I do know Pokémon is at 600-and-something rather than 500-and-something, but still.

I always enjoyed Digimon a lot more than Pokemon. Story is definitely a major point to me. When it comes to the games I've only played the Pokemon ones so I can't really say. As we're comparing the franchises, not the TV shows, each being strong in one point, it's a draw...XD
Kelleth moderator on Feb. 11, 2011 at 4:56 p.m.
@Newten:  Pokémon 649. Digimon I dunno but waaaaaaaaaaaay to many sub species
sickVisionz moderator on Feb. 11, 2011 at 5:06 p.m.
I saw season 1 of Digimon back on Fox when it first came out and very impressed that it ended with a human looking Digimon getting impaled on an arrow while begging for his life.  I wasn't able to get into any other seasons though.  I think it not being episodic really damaged my ability to just jump in.

I've seen a lot of Pokemon episodes and while nothing as great as the impalement, I enjoy it more because it's so goofy and it makes me laugh.  Whether it's Brock hitting on anything in a skirt, Jesse and James being morons, or Meowth and Misty cracking jokes about how dumbfounded their partners are, Pokemon entertained me more when I watched it.

Pokemon get's my vote.

Early pokemon is better than early digimon, later pokemon is worse than later digimon.
InfiniteGeasson Feb. 11, 2011 at 6:34 p.m.
First three seasons of Digimon were cool. Pokemon was cool until they got rid of Misty as a main character. The Pokemon games are way better than the Digimon games though.
EganTheVile1on Feb. 11, 2011 at 6:39 p.m.
Digimon was let's be honest a Pokemon knock off, but it was also a bit darker, and I usually go for darker stories, and though Pokemon was the original, it was more a means towards selling merchandise, though you can argue Digimon as being the same, or any anime geared towards kids, Digimon lacked the repetition that every episode of Pokemon has (Team Rocket blasting off again, Brock lusting over a Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny) Over all as a writer I have to say Digimon is the superior product, though it's characters are far more forgettable.
Destinyheroknighton Feb. 11, 2011 at 6:43 p.m.
@EganTheVile1:
Digimon came out before Pokemon did :(
Pokemon just came out in USA before Digimon did, Digimon didn't knock off Pokemon
Kelleth moderator on Feb. 11, 2011 at 6:54 p.m.
@EganTheVile1:@Destinyheroknight:  And actually Even if Digimon was a Pokémon knock-off, that would still mean that the most important villains of the show where knock-offs from the Time Bokan trio's like the Time Skeletons and Doronbo.
Destinyheroknighton Feb. 11, 2011 at 6:57 p.m.
@Kelleth:
But Digimon predated Pokemon, How is that a knock off?
Digimon was a tamagotchi knock off then a pokemon knock off
