Watch & Learn: FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD #45

Armstrong is one big chump!

Such big muscles on such a little man.
Such big muscles on such a little man.

My, what a tangled web we weave! The big appeal of a show stretching out over this many episodes is getting to see this great kind of complexity.

Whether or not Ling’s consciousness is in charge... Greed’s status as a rogue homunculis… Ed going for the nigh-brazen move of offering his services to a villain… sheltered little miss May being easy prey for the traps of Envy’s forked tongue… Olivier using some flashy misdirection to protect her family…

I love it all. I love this show!

Hell, there’s so much going on now that they're even advancing the plot in the outro credits! And I'm helpless to do anything but stick around for it all. I am, indeed, hooked. I've been "in too deep" for long time.

That being said...

C’mon, even though it made for a funny gag, don’t you think Olivier punked Alex way too easily? He bared his manly chest, but not once did this State Alchemist ever whip out his famous alchemy. Considering how quickly he’s drawn that voodoo out in the past, you would’ve thought he might have used something that would’ve given him a fast and decisive edge. Hm? Just maybe?

The punchline with the Armstrong elders strolling off had a great ADAMMS FAMILY macabre to it. Alex and Olivier might not resemble Pugsly and Wednesday too well, but I was half expecting to hear some hurky-jerky piano notes and finger snaps as the scene faded out.

The "Promised Day" is of course, looming, and the noble resistors are passing secret notes like moon cakes at Lunar New Year. I’m sure there's going to be plenty of fireworks when the day comes - - some probably even caused by alchemy.

Watch this episode, “The Promised Day,” below and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

No mention of Greedling's badass brawl with Wrath?  One of my favorites in the series.  Short but totally sweet.

Alex is just too softhearted to take on his dear sister seriously.  He definitely could have won.  The big softy :3

Also, I really love the way the episode title appears as the last thing in the episode, all dramatic with Mustang being awesome.  Definitely one of my favorite episodes.

I think this is where things start to get crazy but in a good way.

armstrong vs armstrong, funniest fight i have ever seen.   Alex will redeem himself eventually.

They actually show this fight in the anime? In the manga they cut off right as it started and then came back when it was over.

Knowing Alex, if he didn't use Alchemy to kick his big sisters ass, it was either because he wanted the fight to be fair, or he knew that she'd open up ten cans of whoopass on him if he used Alchemy.

This episode has one of the best 2 minutes I've ever seen in an anime. That Bradley vs Greed fight is very good.

They cut in and out. If this were pro-wrestling, it'd be called a "Squash Match."

Maybe it was too short and I blinked and missed it?

Heh heh... nah... it was cool. I think I was digging it more for Pride's comments about Greed being like the black sheep of homunculi family.

Ha! I'm sure that's what he tells everybody afterward to save face.

Yes, like over the top fights and something that will blow your mind in later episodes.
