Watch & Learn: FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD #28

The grand gimp returns!

Yes, I'm comparing the most metro zealot to the raging demon.
Yes, I'm comparing the most metro zealot to the raging demon.

See? I told you this break wouldn’t be that long. After taking some time off to properly load TRIGUN and shop in ABENOBASHI’s magical arcade, I’m hanging out with Alchemical Kids once again and it feels like no time’s passed at all. I’m immediately reminded of how much easier it is to comment on a show like this. We’re far enough along that all these threads are tightly woven together, and I can just observe how all the characters step forward.

Maybe it’s the deep, guttural voice, maybe it’s the ever-coiled stance, maybe it’s his inversion of alchemy's principles, but I’m really starting to like Scar for the same reasons I like Akuma in STREET FIGHTER. “Anti-hero” might not be as appropriate a description as “villain you love to hate," though.  Even though he did some awful things to Winry’s family, I was still rooting for him as he unleashed high holy hell on Father and the sins.

And, you know, bringing up a video game characters is doubly-appropriate, because if Envy's true form seemed like a mini-boss, then Father definitely has "SNK boss syndrome." I  can just picture it taking ten bucks worth of quarters to beat this guy at the arcade.

I’m hoping that somebody splats Gluttony before the fatman regains some souls, and I’m really hoping these sins aren’t just entities that can live forever so long as they have a fresh supply of hosts. That seems to be what they’re implying with the grand gimp… *AHEM *… that is, Greed, getting reincarnated in Lin. I’m leery of that, because it stinks too much of Jason, Freddy and Chucky coming back again and again... and again. Although, I did think it was hilarious how the bad guys are impressed by Lin’s willingness to submit to possession, when it really seems like he was just too dense to understand the implications of getting a Philisopher’s Stone. Then again, he does appear to be reasserting his personality a bit at the end of this episode, so maybe he’s shrewder than he appears.

Watch this episode, “Father,” below and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

Lust isn't coming back, since her stone was destroyed.
However, Father ate Greed's stone, so he was able to rebuild a new Greed inside Ling.

And Father as a Street Fighter boss?
...
...
I can't comment on that. Spoilers.

My favorite part of this episode is when Ling is floating in the souls and Greed pops out with that LAUGH.  That laugh is amazing.  It makes the whole scene for me.

And Tom, make sure you are watching the after-credits scenes.  From this point there are a lot.

you can spot them quite easily actually, just look at the timer when the ending begins, if there's like 4 minutes left then that means there's still more after the ending but i probably don't have to tell you that but still it's worth knowing. Also who doesn't love Greed? When it comes to sheer awesomness in this series Greed usually ranks pretty high only to be stopped by the powerhouse that is Wrath. I just love when they clash.. I'm gonna stop here or i'll just spoil everything for Tom

@abysofpride:
The hell, come on man.  Fix that spoiler, or better yet, just get rid of it.

You know, I did stay to watch it for some reason (Winry's boobs?) and was really confused. I didn't know if that was supposed to be a preview for the next episode. Is this the first one they've done it for?

I don't really remember if they've done it before 28, but from now on it is a rather frequent occurrence.  So yeah, the little scene with Father and Gluttony is plot and not a preview.   Quite often if you missed it, a scene in a following episode might not make sense.

I know. Don't make me spoil.

I'll have to start watching til the end then. This was something else as Father seemed confused a bit by what was going on. Now having seen some of what he can do, Father is more and less than what I expected. I hope Ling is able to regain control of his body cuz now he's even more badass. Ed and Al still have a lot to learn since Father took 'em to school. Still want to know his connection to Hohenheim.
