Watch & Learn: FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BROTHERHOOD #25

Envy's the boss of level 25!

Maybe he's using all of those faces, but he can't possibly need all those limbs.
Maybe he's using all of those faces, but he can't possibly need all those limbs.

Envy reveals his/her true form in this one and, as I always suspected, that true form is a video game boss. Relax. That’s not a knock. But c’mon… don’t tell me you lunatics saw this new form and didn’t immediately think about how Ed and Ling would have to individually knock out every head, working their way up with the necessary hit points, before this monster started flashing with increasing frequency as it neared defeat?

And, of course, when they finally destroy this fiend next episode (and there's no doubting that they will) it's going to explode into an absolute shower of coins.

We find out that this he/she bastard started the Ishvalan war and while that's certainly dastardly, I’m sure there’s got to be much more to this conspiracy than what’s apparent right now.  As provocative as it would be, this whole mess can’t just be about Envy getting his jollies from killing a kid and watching what happens next.

I think it’s darkly amusing that Gluttony is a failed attempt at making the Door of Truth because, well, doesn’t that seem awfully coincidental? You accidentally make a homunculus with an insatiable appetite while trying to create a bottomless pit? What, was Lust originally the result of "Father" trying to make a better blow-up doll?

I think it’s funny that the last episode was the one titled “In the Belly” since they’re actually in the belly this time. Speaking of allusions and the memories that trigger them in the oddest ways, Ed, Al and Envy's predicament seriously reminded me of one of my favorite novels, HOUSE OF LEAVES. It was about this family that moves into a house that’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside - - as in endlessly bigger. I suppose there was a lot less intestinal bile in that story, but it was chewing on the same ideas, so to speak.

Watch this episode, “Doorway of Darkness,” below, make your own decisions, and then read my comments on the previous episode here.

"Bigger on the inside" always makes me think of Dr. Who and the TARDIS.

Your predictions about Envy are interesting, because they are simultaneously correct and completely off base, by which I mean, when you find out what actually happens, you will feel simultaneously surprised and vindicated.  That's a mark of a good "twist," I think: what happens has to logically follow from everything that's happened so far, but at the same time has to not be the most obvious conclusion to draw.  Then again, Gurren Lagann's plot twists worked by constantly shredding our assumptions about what was possible...hmm.

Was your "shower of coins" comment prompted by the fact that the promoted video in the sidebar on the YouTube page for this episode was titled "Scott Pilgrim v. The World" (at least that's what it was for me)?

heh yes when they figure out how to get out heh yes your reaction to that episode will be very interesting.....

the finale of season 2 will surprise you, it will.

Once again, you don't give FMA enough credit.

You're getting there though with Gluttony's function being more than coincidental though. Think less 'Survival of the Fittest', and more 'Intelligent Design' here.

And the next episode will blow your mind.

Well I didn't see that coming (Envy's transformation). I got to thinking that inside that half-Door of Truth the humunculi are stonger for some reason. Ling and Ed are in a pinch again but even if things went badly it would be better to die trying than wait to keel over. The military high command is really putting it to the good guys. Mustang's got to feel like he's been kicked in the nuts with how he's being toyed with. As for Al, Gluttony must be trying to act dumber than he looks to take him to Father. Boy is Al going to be in for some surprises if they get that far.

I've only got 1 dubbed ep left! Oh no...

No, although that movie is totally rad. I grew up doing as much gaming as Bryan Lee O'Malley, though.

What number episode is that?
rubberluffyon Nov. 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.
@Tom_Pinchuk:
The next one, 26.  27 has a new opening and ending (my favorite opening, but I hate the ending), and the episode is half filler (which I actually like), and half recap.  28 goes right from where 26 left off.  If you decide seasons by new openings/endings then 27 starts season 3.
