Watch & Learn: [C] - CONTROL #4

Yoga's mentor suffers some Pac Man fever.

You erased my two kids and unborn child for some extra pocket change. But, relax, it's alright.
You erased my two kids and unborn child for some extra pocket change. But, relax, it's alright.

Pac-Man defense? I’m not seeing the correspondence. You’d think such a magical attack would involve at least some eating, wouldn’t you? I suppose the deluge of circular plates might resemble all the little circles Pac-Man’s got to gobble in that game but, if that’s the case, then it’s a really oblique reference.

Tenuous allusions to 80s video games, aside, I’ve been enjoying how these battles feel more like proper wizards’ duels instead the turn-based RPG combat theY could resemble - - and that isn’t just because of the preponderance of Masonic symbolism the show’s covered Mikuni in because of the crew’s obsession with American currency. Even if you don’t quite grasp the precise delineation between micro, meso and macro attacks, you still get enough of a sense that there’s reason, logic and maybe even a science to these entres’ arcana. They’re doing math on the fly to keep stock of their respective capital amounts and they’re taking artful approaches to feign attacks before they go in for the real kill. Without any animosity behind the duels, they actually feel more like the competitive technique displays you’d see in a Capoeria match.

All that said, I do think the notion of the Assets having stock is a little too cute of an extended conceit. Maybe it’ll make more sense in how it’s handled going forward, though.

Getting back to the animosity of the games… wow, does Yoga’s professor take the loss of his family well. Reiterating what I said last episode, I’ve been liking how there’s less melodrama in this show. No hot blood in sight! If this were SPIDER-MAN (where at least a quarter of Spidey’s villains are his teachers,) these guy would be bitter enemies right now. I guess the Prof is just accepting that life’s a big zero sum game and the agent lady wasn’t whistling dixie about reality getting warped by these bouts last episode. Who’s to say that Yoga’s co-worked at the 7-11 isn’t a victim of a previous warp, you know? Sooner or later, the young man’s going to have to pick which end of the stick he wants to be on.

I think C has been my favorite new anime of the season, but I also think it's been a weak season.

I agree with the latter point wholeheartedly.  However, I felt the series went a little crazy with its plot at the end.  It indeed went somewhere big; I just couldn't follow it for the life of me.

When we get there rxan I 'll see if I can help you out.  I loved this show.  Steins gate I enjoyed mroe but this was a close second.  I don't know about a weak season.  Both this and steins gate were much better than the moe junk we usually get.

Onward to this episode.  Notice that he didn't take the loss well when he first found out about it.  Right now he is in shock....so are micro, and meso masonic terms...confused.  I thought the relationship was to micro and macro economics.

Also no comment on what was happening when he was following his teacher around the house...?  I thought that was uber creepy.  Also his asset really looks like someone elses doesn't it??

(as for the entre's having stock....what you don't like a metaphor extended past the point of all reason...?)

I think I was able to follow it, but I can't really tell. It doesn't seem to be so much an issue of "it doesn't make sense because you didn't understand something important" as much as it is them leaving some of the mechanics of how the world works a bit vague. Then again it might just demand a second viewing to get down some of the details, thought that seems less likely.

We'll all sit for some tea and cordial discussion when I get to those episodes.

Meso would seem related mesomorph, which is the "medium" body type between the extremes of ecto and endomorphs. Also Mesoamerica. Just medium setting.

Also no comment on what was happening when he was following his teacher around the house...? I thought that was uber creepy.

I'm certifiably desensitized, now. Don't you remember?

The best I can come up with for the Pac-Man Defense is maybe the attacker is, as you said Tom, supposed to go through breaking each white plate thingy... like... Pac-Man?

We need a GALAGA defense for next episode.

I'm also interested in finding out about the Masonic elements. Any good place to be directed or learn the comparisons that you cats know of? Or is it as simple as the symbols found on the US dollar?

I don't see there being much deeper a level of symbolism to it other than they thought it looked cooled to vaguely dress an entre like a dollar bill.

@Tom_Pinchuk: wow...so these are biology terms then?  I have a masters in biochemistry and I am not familiar with these terms.....I never had actually made the connection either to meso america (united states being between north and south and so in the middle).  You have an amazingly broad swath of knowledge.  You need to go back and thank your teachers....;)

Oh and you can't be desensitized until you have seen when they cry (the freakiest show ever...) or at lest elfin lied (which is just disgusting)

Disagree strongly with it being a weak season. Between [C], Deadman Wonderland, Hanasaku Iroha, Tiger & Bunny, and Steins;Gate there's some high quality and variety going on.
