Vote for Your Favorite Anime in 2012!

Forget that thing in November - - this is the most important election of 2012!

The time has come for all to cast their votes for Anime Vice's Top of 2012. The voting starts now and will end at 11:59pm, January 7th with the final results published later that week.

The method this year is a two-part process that's a little different than last year's...

(1) Look through the 2012 Anime List

The votes are tallied automatically by the names filled in on the voting form, so it's critically important that you fill in the voting blanks with the exact text written in the list.

For example, FUTURE DIARY MIRAI NIKKI is written on the form as "Mirai Nikki (Future Diary)" in the spreadsheet. A vote for "Future Diary" or "Mirai Nikki" will count as votes for two separate series, neither of which is actually the entry on the list!

There were titles last year that would have had their rank altered by a single vote so be sure that yours is counted correctly! If you are having problems locating your series, the list is searchable (press Ctrl/Cmd+F). Try searching for part of the title to see if it appears.

(2) Fill Out the Voting Form

The voting form is pretty self-explanatory. Copy (Ctrl/Cmd+C) the title from the master list and paste (Ctrl/Cmd+V) it into the appropriate voting field which are ranked first through fifth.

And as if you needed any more incentive to participate... Tom and Sam are going to cover the results in a special episode of the Vice Pit next year! That's right! Every vote counts!

So, vote on!

Oh cool, I didn't know you could make forms like that in Google Docs.

I'll definitely vote before the deadline comes around, but I still have a handful of shows to check out first! It'll be like last-minute cramming for a test, except awesome.

It's going to be really tough to pick five... Binbougami-ga!, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Kokoro Connect, The Familiar of Zero F and Waiting in the Summer were all great in very different ways. Then there's Magi which I only started recently and the other stuff I haven't checked out yet... Oh! And The Pet Girl of Sakurasou! Which is way better than I expected it to be. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PICK JUST FIVE?!

Yeah.... tough. But a good kind of tough.

sickVisionz moderator on Dec. 26, 2012 at 11:25 a.m.

@Daniel_Newton: Too much good stuff came out this year. My memories of the middle seasons are a bit foggy, but the year started off with a bang and then ended with one as far as I'm concerned. I know Kids on the Slope will make my top 5 but it's going to be really to choose only 4 from Another, Natsuyuki Rendevous, Milky Holmes S2, Fate/Zero, Chihayafuru, Nisemonogatari, Sword Art Online, Polar Bear Cafe, Hunter x Hunter and From the New World. On top of that, I still want to check out Robotics;Notes, Psycho Pass, Waiting in the Summer, Hayate no Gotoku, Magi, Pet Girl, Say I Love You and Kokoro Connect)

I hope there's not an abundance of Fate/Zero fans here. Don't hate the show, but those fans are RABID!

I agree with @Daniel_Newton. This was a very good year for anime, and well made ones at that.

I wont reveal my choices, but the majority involve space or Sci-fi, and the one outside of that is a long-running series that I couldn't resist picking.

what even came out this year? I dont remember its all a blur XD

metalsnakezeroon Dec. 26, 2012 at 12:43 p.m.

Made a mistake on my first voting form so I did another one. Hopefully my correct votes want in.

rubberluffyon Dec. 26, 2012 at 2:10 p.m.

Only voted for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Hunter x Hunter since it's still going. I regret nothing.

AURON570on Dec. 26, 2012 at 3:03 p.m.

Hmm I will see if I can marathon through a few more series before the voting deadline.

DocHauson Dec. 26, 2012 at 3:13 p.m.

Several good comedies this year, and a handful of decent "serious" shows. It was tough to pick 5 but I made my decision.

Also I was reminded that I need to watch From the New World at some point. I've heard good things about that one.

sickVisionz moderator on Dec. 26, 2012 at 3:14 p.m.

@metalsnakezero: I'll erase the first one.

If anyone makes a mistake, resubmit it and PM me so I can erase the old one.

metalsnakezeroon Dec. 26, 2012 at 4:13 p.m.

@sickVisionz: Oh, thanks.

Awesome! I'll spread the word to the members who are more active in Giant Bomb, Comic Vine, and the rest of the Whiskey Media sites.

zaldaron Dec. 26, 2012 at 4:42 p.m.

So how does the community feel about people voting who haven't seen even five of these...I have seen a few of the new stuff but honestly most of what I watched early I didn't like so I went back to watching old stuff I hadn't seen. Also is this stuff released in America (as I thought some stuff had been released here for the first time that I didn't see listed...but my knowledge of when it was released may be off).

Count_Zeroon Dec. 26, 2012 at 4:49 p.m.

My vote is submitted!

Bigheart711on Dec. 26, 2012 at 5:09 p.m.

It was a time-eater to remember, but I voted as well.

DocHauson Dec. 26, 2012 at 5:18 p.m.

@zaldar: You are only required to vote for the top 1, the rest you can fill in with what you want or leave blank

sickVisionz moderator on Dec. 26, 2012 at 6:09 p.m.

@zaldar: Like DocHaus said, you don't have to vote for five series. If you didn't like anything from 2012 and can't think of a single series you'd want to vote for, there's always the option of just sitting the whole process out.

The list is anime that aired in Japan in 2012.

It's pretty good. The way they draw characters reminds me of Ghost Hound, the animation is pretty good (not always hyper fluid, but really expressive on a regular basis), the way it's colored reminds me of Casshern Sins, and the story is like a mashup of Kamisama Dolls with some splashes of Akira thrown in.

takashichea moderator on Dec. 26, 2012 at 6:35 p.m.

@zaldar:

It's not too late.

You check the shows that my partner, BigHeart711, and I complied in the trailers archive. Most of them are short, 12 episodes or so.

Edit:

I voted! It was so hard to pick just five. This year was weird because I worked on a lot of new anime wiki projects, and most of already ended by now.

asian_prideon Dec. 26, 2012 at 6:53 p.m.

I actually just put my #2-5 anime and didn't care for the score or anything, so that might be subject to change once I get my final list in order (don't know when). But I already know my number 1 show of the year.

Thanks to for getting me to watch this.

Turambaron Dec. 26, 2012 at 7:09 p.m.
Gundam Unicorn Seems a bit of an odd fit considering it's not only an OVA, only one episode came out this year.  Really have no idea how to fit that coherently into a list paired against 13 episode or more shows.

This list reminded me of just what came out, and what should probably go in my personal end of the year posts though.  (Now that I said it publicly, I guess I'll actually have to do it.)
