Voltron Movie Status: Lawsuit-Thrusters Are Go

Uh-oh, Keith!

ICv2 reports that three independent producers who were working on a new Voltron movie as early as 2004 are now suing World Events Productions and Kickstart Productions, the latter of whom eventually granted the rights to the flick to one Atlus Productions. Clearing rights is no small process for a series that, not unlike Robotech, was developed by splicing together two shows-- Beast King Golion and Kikou Kantai ("Armored Fleet") Dairugger XV. The producers are Ford Oelman, James Young, and Mark Costa (the latter of whom has worked on the Ben 10 TV movie Alien Swarm and a few other upcoming projects).

Don't worry, the movie's still in the works-- the producers "are not contesting the which Atlas Productions acquired the rights to develop a Voltron feature," but they are upset that they're not getting recognition for the work they did clearing rights and hiring writers some years back, which seems fair. According to Young, "We want the movie to get made.  We just want to make sure we're involved in some way and are compensated."

I guess we'll see how it goes.

I am actually shocked that Voltron is not already a live action american movie, or at least already being wrapped up.  This movie with the right director will be box office gold dollars.

The thing is I'm a little wary of this, from what I understand the whole thing has a war of the worlds style where the Drule are invading Earth, never to be seen outside of their robeast mechs, or in them for that matter, the Voltron lions are hidden somewhere in Mexico, cause when I think super high-tech world saving robots, I think Mexico! Heck it sounds like a Megan Fox playing Allura away from Transformers to me at this point.
