VIZ Features Pluto Manga Trailer

It's a rare manga trailer that actually piques my interest.

I'm always a little skeptical of manga trailers-- as much love as I have for all the manga companies, the trailers tend to seem dull at best, and downright unattractive at worst.

But I'm going to make an exception for VIZ's new trailer for Pluto, Naoki Urasawa's take on Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy, which actually proffers a sense of urgency that might nudge a fan into buying the book (volume one is in stores now!).

That said, I do have to poke fun about one thing: it opens up saying that the manga is based on “Astro Boy: The Greatest Robot On Earth,” and then asks the question towards the end: “Who is the greatest robot on earth?” I mean, I know we all kind of knew the answer to begin with, but it seems a little repetitive.

Still, though, if you're on the fence about whehter to spend that $10 on the manga instead of a movie or something, check out the trailer and see if it knocks you over onto the Pluto side.

(Tangentially related-- blogger Kannika has some footage from the Osamu Tezuka museum you might enjoy checking out. Via AICNAnime.)

First two volumes are out and the third is out in three weeks.  It's an amazingly good story, as one should expect from Urasawa.  Even if you're not familiar with the Atom mythos, the dectective story with heavy psychological thriller tones is more than enough to keep you interested.  I highly recommend the series.

Pluto is absolutely phenominal in every aspect.
