User Poll: What Do We Watch Next?

Which to choose...

So, the time of Gurren Lagann has come and gone. While fun, things must move on, but move on to what? That said, a couple options I've managed to come up with are...

The contestants

  Viewtiful Joe:

Everyday slacker Joe has only two interests in life, and arguably, the screen hero Captain Blue takes precedence over Silvia, Joe's often neglected girlfriend. But when villains from the Movieworld snatch Silvia from a cinema and drag her into an alternate dimension, Joe chases after her into the screen. He gets to be Viewtiful Joe, a superhero in training who tries to rescue his beloved, while learning tips on the superhero lifestyle from the aging, portly Captain Blue.

I've never seen the animation, but the games were amusing enough that I can only assume the series is fun.

Naruto Shippuuden:

Naruto Shippuuden is the continuation of the series Naruto, taking place 3 years in the future.

What needs to be said about Naruto. Love it, hate it, its pretty much the definition of shonen ninja these days. We would aim to cover the first season of Shippuuden, around 30 episodes.

Eyeshield 21:

Quiet Sena Kobayakawa joins the Deimon Devils Football team in secret as Eyeshield 21. Their goal is to play in the Christmas Bowl!

Oh come on... Football shonen series. What more do you need to know? Given how amusing Big Windup was for Baseball and Saki for Majong, I'm more than willing to give this show a chance. Like with Naruto we'd probe the first 25'ish episodes.

Chi's Sweet Home:

Chi is just a little kitten that got seperated by her mother on a walk. She ends up being tooken in by a family that desides to keep her in there very small apartment. Since she is just a kitten, she has a lot to learn about house life and about beeing a real cat. And her owners have a lot to learn about cats. It makes for a interesting time.

Chi! Adorable cat is adorable. The episodes are short, but still highly enjoyable.

  Glass Masks:

Inspired by Chigusa Tsukikage, a star who retires due to injury, Maya Kitajima resolves to become an actress and joins her idol's theater troupe. Pushed to the limit by Chigusa, who turns out to be a tough taskmistress...

While I doubt I could strike Skip Beat gold twice in a row, the fact remains that its a show where the star attempts to become an actress.

Darker than Black:

Ten years ago, Hells gate appeared in Tokyo. Afterwords two types of humans with supernatural abilities appeared: emotionless 'dolls' that only do what they're 'programmed' to and wield the ability of surveillance, and 'contractors', feared and hated by the humans that know of their existence. Rationally self-preserving and without the feeling of guilt, it's not long before contractors are used as ideal assassins and weapons of war.

Hands down the series I would pick. I really, really want to rewatch the series, but alas, it's a Hulu series. That means, as should be obvious to all people outside of NA, that the series is unwatchable to that percentage of the community.

EDIT: Hulu loves no one outside of the US and its provinces. Sorry for perpetuating myths to the contrary

Overview

So what do you think? All of the shows, other than Darker than Black, are Crunchy Roll, and thus open to more regions. But, a Hulu show or a YouTube might not be the end of the world, since we're already airing one such series.

Feel free to throw in your opinions, and suggestions of shows I might have missed.
JackSukeruon Dec. 18, 2009 at 1:48 p.m.
Letsee.. As much as I like Viewtiful Joe I'd heard somewhere that the series was crap, which is to bad. The Naruto anime can go **** itself while I'll just catch up with the manga.
Eyeshield 21 is kinda interesting.

My vote goes to Chi's sweet home, because even if Sena has got a sweet helmet, a cat is fine...too.
Sigueon Dec. 18, 2009 at 1:58 p.m.
Hulu is unavailable to Canadians as well. It's often overlooked, but North America does not consist of the United States alone. So I guess Chi's Sweet Home? It looks adorable.
Konandaon Dec. 18, 2009 at 2:09 p.m.

 I'd go with Viewtiful Joe.

@John_Martone:

Correction you mean as should be obvious to all people outside of the United States of America. Last I checked Canada and 20 other countries were still in North America and still without access to Hulu unless through a U.S. proxy server. >_> Anyway it's a common mistake and I actually found it kind of funny/cute in the ahaha John's prepetuating the stereotype that Americans forget about their closest neighbours and trading partners existance. :p

Anyway I need to go chop some more wood to throw onto the fireplace to keep the igloo warm and than walk my polar bear. ;) I leave you with this.

As mentioned North America isn't just another name for America, it is the geographical representation of the US, Mexico Canada and a bunch of other places too numerous to list here combined. So you may want to fix that typo.

  •   Viewtiful Joe:  NO: I never played the games but as interesting as it looks i have only heard bad things about the anime.
  •   Naruto Shippuuden:   NO: Just a personal thing for me. I have yet to finish watching the first Naruto so i don't want to skip ahead to the 2nd series. But if enough people want to watch it that's fine too, i just wont be. lol
  •   Eyeshield 21:  Indifferent: I'm not a fan of football and i honestly have never heard of the series before so I'm indifferent ether way.
  •   Chi's Sweet Home: Sure: I'm already watching it so why not? Spreading the word of Chi can only lead to happiness.
  •   Glass Masks:    Indifferent: Nothing stands out about the show for or against it, so I'm good ether way.
  •   Darker than Black: HELLS NO!: This is the only listed series that actually looks like i would like to watch, but as mentioned in the article its only on hulu so most people cant watch it. Other wise this one would have gotten my vote.
Vorsicon Dec. 18, 2009 at 2:32 p.m.
The Viewtiful Joe games are awesome but the show is garbage.
John_Martoneon Dec. 18, 2009 at 3:20 p.m.
@Konanda: Sorry, I did not forget that Canada was part of North America, I just assumed (incorrectly) that the distribution channels were the same. Oh well, I hope this apology finds you well. That is, after you get back from walking your polar bear.
HeeroYuyon Dec. 18, 2009 at 4:22 p.m.
EYESHIELDO NI-JU-ICHI! YAAAHAAA!!!

Seriously though, I don't even like football in the least bit, but this series is flat out awesome. Especially the team coach.
InfiniteGeasson Dec. 18, 2009 at 4:26 p.m.
I pick  Chi's Sweet Home solely based on the cuteness factor.
FLStyleon Dec. 18, 2009 at 4:32 p.m.
@John_Martone: Have you checked which are region coded? Because the last time Gia picked a Crunchyroll anime specifically so that AV users outside of the US could watch it, she picked Natsume Yuujinchou, which is region coded so only people in the US can watch it. :(
Konandaon Dec. 18, 2009 at 4:42 p.m.
@crusader8463:
Not really there is 23 soverign nations and 20 dependant territories that are somewhat autonomous but still have their head of state directed from an overseas nation mainly the U.S., U.K., the Netherlands and France. So, while it would be a lengthy list to write down it's not too large when you think that only 23 of those 43 places are actually countries the rest being technically part of those four countries I mentioned and being classified as a territory in the technical sense. I wonder though if people in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Navassa Island have access to Hulu without going through a proxy server. Although than again Navassa Island is unihabited I believe besides maybe some research station or something.

Don't worry about it. I just wanted an excuse to post a video with the song Candian Please and Matthew from Hetalia in it. Sorry if my teasing was a little harsh. :D Anyway, as it's been mentioned before in a previous article I believe, is that Hulu only has a liscense for the U.S. Although I read an article saying that our friends across the pond in the U.K. might be able to access the site sometime next year if their legal stuff or w/e works out right.
Oh and BTW anyone wondering where the song in that video is from.

@FLStyle:
I've been able to watch it just fine and I'm a Canadian. I had some problems in the first couple episodes were it wouldn't load but that was an issue with my browser. Try looking into that it may be a bug that has to do with the way they uploaded the video and the way your browser is trying to communicate with it.

Although if it's telling you there's a region restriction than bummer dude, guess you can't have a worldwide liscense for everything.
FLStyleon Dec. 18, 2009 at 4:59 p.m.
@Konanda: It was on the very first episode when I was trying to find out what was going on when damswedon pointed it out to me. Maybe the the region code is only limited to people outside of North America, all I know is that I tried everything I could and nothing changed. I've just tried today's episode and it's the same.

I vote for Gintama!
DocHauson Dec. 18, 2009 at 5:17 p.m.
I would really like Darker than Black as well, but then again I can watch that on my own time, so I'll toss in a vote for Eyeshield.

...actually, Gintama would be the bee's knees if we could show that. Do bees have knees? Where did that saying come from?
John_Martoneon Dec. 18, 2009 at 5:43 p.m.
@FLStyle: Interesting. I remember you having technical issues, but I guess I wasn't party to the resolution. Where are you again?

Chi at least should be fine, Gia started doing it awhile ago, but unsure about the others. Maybe I'll dreg up the embed stuff for that and make a forum post out of the first episodes just to check
FLStyleon Dec. 18, 2009 at 6 p.m.
@John_Martone: UK, I've never had any problems before but as Konanda pointed out he's having no problems from his native land of Canada. It plays this 7 second video asking the user to sign up for Crunchyroll as opposed to the episode, even after I did sign up. It sucks but I've got a lot to be thankful for from AV, so whatever happens in the future happens. For the sake of getting back on topic I'll go for Chi's Sweet Home.
JJOR64on Dec. 18, 2009 at 6:25 p.m.
Darker than Black looks like an awesome show.  I pick that one!
AjayRazon Dec. 18, 2009 at 6:29 p.m.
Chi's sweet home. Didn't you post a video of it a while ago? that was so funny ^^
Zeouterlimitson Dec. 18, 2009 at 6:38 p.m.
Chi's Sweet Home :)
Daniel_Newton moderator on Dec. 18, 2009 at 6:41 p.m.
I'd vote for Darker than Black, but being in the UK I can't watch Hulu stuff sooooo Chi's Sweet Home I guess :)
