Welcome, my friends, to our newest streaming series, Skip Beat!.

Today's Episode

Now, I'm sure a few of our more manly readers are sitting there thinking, "wtf? What's this girly shoujo series sitting on my screen? She doesn't look very moe at all!" Well, guys, let me tell you that this not-so-moe girl is a badass in her own right-- not the sword-swinging or mech-piloting kind, but the kind who learns to take no prisoners and give it her all! (You'll find that this is a theme for us right now.)

And if that doesn't convince you, then here's a fanboy tidbit that might help: the heroine is voiced by Marina Inoue, who also plays Yoko, Alicia, and Chiri Kitsu. Now, sit down and watch!

FLStyleon Nov. 13, 2009 at 6:18 a.m.
And I've never heard of nor seen Yoko, Alicia, and Chiri Kitsu before so that doesn't help at all!

I'll give it a go.
damswedonon Nov. 13, 2009 at 8:12 a.m.
Gia this better be good because if it ain't I'm going to write one very angry letter... and the worse thing is its going to be in red ink!!!
sunfloweron Nov. 13, 2009 at 9:18 a.m.
I love this series. I only wish they'd ended it at a sensible place.
giaon Nov. 13, 2009 at 9:19 a.m.
@FLStyle: Aw, she's badass. She's played quite a variety of roles, and done all of them well...Yoko is a badass heroine, Chiri is a psychotic obsessive-compulsive high school student; she also played Iku Kasahara in Library Wars (sort of a more butch and *slightly* less silly version of Kyoko in Skip Beat), and she played the blunt maid Matsurika in MariaHolic....she was also Cossette in the horror anime film Le Portrait de Petit Cossette. Really great stuff all around; she's probably my favorite female seiyuu working today. ^_^

@damswedon:
Oh no! Not....not....the red ink!  *shrieks*

Heehee, I guess I get a little paranoid about my readers. My content usually tends to skew more towards male readers (we're currently 62% male 38% female), so I'm always worried that too much pink sparkly stuff will scare them off, which I'd hate because Skip Beat! is such a great series!

I have a logckbox inside of me, but I am not telling any of you the combination.

Hmmm, seems this wont play in Safari for me, but Firefox is fine.  I'll have to look into that.
John_Martoneon Nov. 13, 2009 at 10 a.m.
Oh man, I hate hate hate hate hate hate you Gia, because I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love where this show is going.

I think she was kind of prettier before the cut/dye. Well, not that it was a bad move, but I thought she already looked appealing.
RockmanBionicson Nov. 13, 2009 at 10:36 a.m.
I have a friend who apparently watched and enjoyed this series. I'm still not gonna watch it!
giaon Nov. 13, 2009 at 11:19 a.m.
@John_Martone: You know, I think sometimes-- especially for women, who for centuries have been stuck relying  on their physical appearance --you want to change more just to change than anything else.

On a less philosophical note, they made it clear that her appearance was pretty plain pre-makeover, even if she was also drawn in an appealing fashion according to anime standards. Apparently even Kyoko realizes that in show biz you need to have a cool look, even if she didn't figure out that you also have to, like, want to do something entertaining. ^_^

Be a little more open minded. I thought it was actually pretty funny. Though I thing once we get through these expository bits we'll be better off.
RockmanBionicson Nov. 13, 2009 at 12:28 p.m.
@John_Martone: I'm not saying I wouldn't like it, because I bet I would. I'm saying I'm not gonna watch it.

That's TOTALLY different.

OH MAH GAWD I <3 SKIP BEAT.

>_>
Agent_Loston Nov. 13, 2009 at 1:06 p.m.
Marina Inoue, woot. Yea, I really like her.
AjayRazon Nov. 13, 2009 at 1:30 p.m.
YES! TIME TO WATCH THIS INSANE SHOW that i've never heard....of... ._.

edit: this show is great so far. i can actually understand it, it's funny, the main character is cute and i can actually watch it at a pace, rather than watch 24 episodes in 2 days.

i'm looking forward to more!
damswedonon Nov. 13, 2009 at 2:11 p.m.
  • I like it so far but I prefer Miss Main character with black hair, but she wouldn't be a main character in an anime if she had black hair would she.
  • well Sho is what we call in the UK a wanker.
  • for some reason having realistic (for an anime/manga) artstyle mixed with a more "cartoony" style is freaking me out.
  • Finally the starting and ending themes are quite weak.

The combination is 0000 isn't it
giaon Nov. 13, 2009 at 2:45 p.m.
@damswedon: Sho is definitely a grade-A douchebag.  As for Ethan's luggage combination, we all know it's 1-2-3-4-5.

Hmmmmmm, you have a way with words you do Gia. Fine fine, she did seem pretty good. The idea behind trying to beat Sho is getting my competitive side going again, although that may be Saki withdrawal symptoms kicking in.
giaon Nov. 13, 2009 at 3:34 p.m.
@FLStyle: Mwahaha.

I've got at least an essay, maybe two, to offer up once Skip Beat! is over (or at least very well underway), but I don't want to talk too much so I don't influence peoples' expectations unduly or spoil things ^_^
Addfwynon Nov. 13, 2009 at 6:04 p.m.
I wasn't really digging it through the first...half or so, but the way it seems to be going by the end seems much more promising to me, and I'm usually pretty tough to get hooked or something.
John_Martoneon Nov. 13, 2009 at 6:43 p.m.
@Addfwyn: Likewise. I'm totally sure she's going to end up working with, yet still hating/have a rivalry with the #1 dude that Sho hates, only to be oblivious to the fact that he probably secretly develops feelings for her.

That's my guess anyway.

Dig Deeper into Skip Beat!

Kyoko Mogami follows Sho Fuwa to Tokyo to help him reach his dream to become an idol. She cooks, cleans, has 3 jobs & never does anything for herself. One day, she goes to his agency to give him food, and overhears Sho say she was just a maid.
