Two Big DVD Releases From FUNimation

Is it just a coincidence that both involve gun totting protagonists?

Eden of the East - The Complete Season on DVD/Blu-ray (Oct. 19th, 2010)

This may be coming a bit late, but at this same time last week FUNimation released the highly anticipated Eden of the East series on both DVD & Blu-ray. Sad to say, I know very little about this series. Mostly what I have heard and seen comes from the trailers for the anime. It seems that one day, Akira Takizawa wakes up outside of the White House completely naked, and only a gun and a cellphone in his hands. If that doesn't sounds bad enough. He also has no memories of who he is or how he got there. He runs into a young girl named Saki Morimi, and they both travel back to a Japan that is under a serious terrorist threat. Seems among the many things that slipped Akira mind. It's part of his mission to save Japan or be murdered for failing. Just understanding this much, I can see why people have compared this to The Bourne Identity to me. The regular DVD box set runs at a standard price of $54.98. It has two disks that contains 11 episodes. The Blu-ray is originally priced for $59.98. It also has two disks and 11 episodes. Most of the online retailers I could find had both versions of the series discounted to $35 or under.

The tag line I have been seeing on some of the advertising for this series has been saying, "Save the World or Die". While that seems kind of obvious. You can't exactly live without the world to begin with. Looking at the trailer FUNimation has offered. This certainly appears to be a series I need to check out. I'm just hoping I don't wake up in front of the White House later.

Trigun: The Complete Series Box Set on DVD (Oct. 26th, 2010)

If you have been waiting on the Trigun series. The completes series of the adventures of the gunslinger feared across the planet Gunsmoke has comes to DVD. This was one of the early anime series for me. It was basically what I saw just after getting into Dragon Ball Z. The tale ofVash the Stampede was a great adventure told in a surprising mixture of both the space opera and western genres. Normally, mixing these sort of worlds rarely turns out pretty, but here it really works. I'm usually an incredibly harsh critic of English dub work in anime. Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash, with the rest of the cast, do a superb job that I enjoyed far more than the original Japanese work. The DVD has four disks that contain a total of 26 episode. All of this making up for a grand total of 650 minutes worth of entertainment.

This product with a value of the $$60,000,000,000 can be yours for the low, low listed price of $$50. I'm assuming the exchange rate is near equal from $ and $$. I don't keep up on the Interstellar Exchange Market. If you really want to feel like you are getting away with a steal. Most online retailers, such as Amazon, are offering this this same box set for $29.99. They cut the price nearly in half. So, if you love this series I see little excuse not to pick this up.

Damn only 30 double dollars on amazon? I'm almost contemplating getting that to swap out for my original 8 dvd set to save space. If you haven't seen Trigun that is an amazing price for a great anime.

For us UKers it seems that Eden Of The East is getting the same Bluray release on 29 November 2010 with a RRP of £35.

*already has the Remix edition of Trigun on DVD.*

Eden of the East will seem tempting soon as I don't feel tightly tied up with money.

I've known about these releases and I've been eyeing them for a watch. Don't know if I'll want to buy them but I may end up liking them enough to do so.

Funi announced a Blu-Ray release for Trigun in 2011 so I'm gonna hold off.  I might check out Eden since it's streaming also.

Seems silly that they wouldn't just hold off on the Trigun release till the Blu-ray was also ready. They waited this long, what's a few more months. Though, this does explain that drastic price cut all online retailers are offering.

Aw crap, how did I miss that? I never noticed that Eden of the East was being streamed on FUNimation. I'm on that site all the time.

It's times such as these I wish I was able to update these posts.

Once I get more monies I may very well get the DVD box set of Eden of the East.

Yes, you'll have to drag me into the blu-ray era kicking and screaming.

That's a great deal for the Trigun box set.

Are you against better audio-visual quality in audio-visual mediums?
DocHauson Oct. 27, 2010 at 2:32 p.m.
@sickVisionz:
No, but I am against reflexively paying money for the Next Big Thing until a) it drops to a price I can afford and b) the DVD player(s) I'm using start breaking down.

Also, in an odd twist of fate, my current laptop is capable of running blu-ray discs. However, there isn't any software out there yet that can utilize them aside from what the developer/distribution companies install on their own.
