TwitterCon: Awesome Twits, Er, Tweets

A weekly round-up of anime Twittertalk!

I've seen a few features on entertainment sites that list out celebrity tweets, and it occurred to me, maybe it'd be fun to have a weekly feature like that, but following prominent anime companies and the like? So here it is, your first TwitterCon!

Hot Topics:

Fanart, and sourcing it. You've noticed that here at Vice we try, but let's face it-- most of the time the fanart is being spread out at 4chan and other sites that don't provide any links, signatures are rare, and it's even more rare for a signature to be readable. Would you guys rather we truncated art posts and only included those we could find links for? Or do you prefer our general policy, which has been “post 'em, and if readers know who it is, encourage them to link to the artist in the comments”?

Tweets of Note:

I think I'm going to leave it there for the time being-- there's SO much going on I could do this for hours. What do you guys think? Do I need more of this? Less? Who else should I be following? INFLUENCE ME!

You should be following your own path.

true enlightenment comes from the realizations made within oneself, regardless of the outside stimuli that prompted it.

twitter is a fad that will die in 2 years:
At best, people will realize that twitter is just a tool, a way to point people toward real news, longer posts of opinion, nifty pictures, or even whole sites of note --  but still just a pointer, not a platform  ::  that, and twitter does nothing new:  any and all platforms currently available on the web (blogs, web sites, web fora, social networking sites, 'official' sites and even things like IM & IRC) can do (and have done) what twitter does -- and the best parts of twitter will be co-opted by programs with more functionality.

So yes, follow what your heart tells you to follow, but do not mistake the medium for the message.

Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook are merging into one website.

It will be called:  you-twit-face.com

I can't wait for Twitter to fall back into disuse and insignificance when everyone realizes that it serves pretty much no purpose other than linking to pages with more content because the asinine 120 character limit prevents anything of true depth or importance from being posted on the service itself. All Twitter does right now is cater to the blog readers whose ADD is so bad they can't handle the intake of more than two sentences at a time. Fuck Twitter.

You know, I used to hate on Twitter, too. Then I shut up, listened and let people who got something to say, say it. What people say about Twitter now is what people said of blogs when they started, then of Myspace, then of Facebook, and so on. It may seem meaningless and perhaps is, but not everything has to be deep or insightful to be enjoyable, or else most media wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Besides, at least with Twitter it teaches people how to keep their thoughts short and susinct.

I really like Twitter. The short mass updates are really useful for conventions and organizations who want to let their attendees know something urgently, such as sending a schedule change to cell phones. I also get send intriguing articles and random links that are usually either informative or humorous that I usually never would have found on my own. I also get to talk to people I don't really know in real life but still find interesting, as opposed to Facebook which is usually more for real life acquaintances.

BTW, you can find me @nikoscream

I use Twitter to follow blogs and websites I like (like this one), so that when they post a story I'm interested I'll know without having to go there every day.  I also use it to follow action at cons or events that I'm not attending.  So this would be a useful feature for me, because for one I don't know a lot of industry twitter accounts and this could introduce me to new ones, and two, even if I don't follow them you can keep us up to date here.

As I said on Twitter itself-- I don't know if the site will survive past whenever some other site does a better version of micro-blogging. But at the moment it's pretty much the only sizable micro-blogging site, and I do think that micro-blogging is a really great tool-- a way to casually communicate with others en masse but in brief.

Micro-blogging micro-blogging micro-blogging! <_<

I don't think twitter is a fad, I think it's here to stay. It has so many uses beyond what most people normally think it does.
