Tuesday is Toyday: That's Not Miku (But I Love It)

OH GOD I MUST HAVE THIS.

Today's Toyday is devoted entirely to the “World is Mine” Miku. Good Smile Company's phenomenal figure sprawls out on a fuschia and black checker blanket with a few rose (sakura?) petals fluttered down around her feet, and she just looks amazing. Even if that knowing smirk doesn't look anything like the Miku Hatsune we all know and love, but frankly, I'm not such a huge Miku fan anyway-- she's adorable, but not the type I obsess over...unlike the girl who appears in this figure. Rawr.

The full figure name is supercell feat. Miku Hatsune: World is Mine, and she comes with a dark wood frame or a light wood frame. Either version is ¥8,800 (about $91 USD), which means that She is Not Mine any time real soon. But she's not due out until September anyway...maybe I could save up...
...Oh, god, I just looked at the picture of it hanging on a wall. I must have this. That's too awesome.

That looks bloody amazing.  I was never a big Miku fan either but holy smokes that figure/wall art piece looks really nice.

I'm not really feeling the petal leaves though. It looks off compared to the rest of the square.

If I were to get this, I'd probably get the darker framed one. The lighter frame looks too bright compared to the overall figure.

Yeah, I like the dark frame too-- although I prefer that in my furniture as well.

That dose look really good and it cost  8800 yen or 91 dollars. That's kinda expensive but it seem like a real high quality item.

That looks nice. It would be an impressive wall ornament. Still, I'm with the rest who can't afford it anytime soon.

I have a couple of figures of my own and I'm not into those ''flat'' types of figures...so this one doesn't wow me at all. I mean, sure, the details are amazing and everything, but to me, the whole point of having a figure is to have a character rendered in 3D that I can place on my desk or something. Even if she is fully rendered, I don't see the appeal of having her hang on my wall.

I Personally Feel And Will Go On The Record Saying:

yes, the association of a figure with an established story (background, associations, relationships, established personality and, to a lesser extent, the look and design) makes the figure more attractive -- but shouldn't there be room in the market for good-looking figures that just look good?

We can come up with a story later.  If the figure is so damn sweet that it begs for its (OK, her... but I also leave open the possibility for effin' awsome mecha) own damn show then -- as an Otaku Fanboy Loser -- I can only stand up and applaud.

Why not cut some of the sculptors loose and see what they come up with?  Sculpts are as much an art as line drawings, give sculptors their props, and also some opportunities.   If the models are that good, we'll write the stories to justify them.

I have to admit, that looks very impressive.

oh that one sweet figure, at $91 no wonder is look amazing.

@rocketbomber: there ARE a fair number of original figures out there, and some of them are pretty good. Or like-- Shunya Yamashita's got a number of figures based on his art out, but that art doesn't have backstories or anything. Still, some of those figures are thoroughly drool-worthy.
