Tribute to Michael Jackson in Anime

Goodnight sweet prince.

It is no small statement to say that Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, was an inspiration to almost anyone who heard his music or seen him dance. So it is to no surprise that he himself, or a character like him made appearance in anime, manga, and video games. This isn’t going to be one of those memorial articles where we watch his music videos and listen to celebrities talk about how great he is. No, you will see enough of those in the coming days, weeks, and years. Here, we do things the Anime Vice way, and that means celebrate Michael Jackson’s career in anime!

“Oh good looking, good song!”

Now, I’m no Michael Jackson expert, but I’m going to do my best to show you his different cameos in anime. First off is his appearance in Idol Tenshi Youkoso Youko; bad engrish and all. Here he proclaims his love for the main character by asking her for her autograph.

Jango in One Piece’s Dace Carnival

One of the best nods to Michael Jackson in anime is Jango from One Piece . He is the first mate of Captain Kuro, and the ships hypnotist. Jango might not sing like Michael, but he can dance and walk like a pro.

Thriller in One Piece.

Outside Anime fun stuff:

I’m sure Michael Jackson was the red ranger.

In conclusion, I’m sure this is the way Michael Jackson wants us to remember him; dancing to Motteke! Serafuku like a real otaku. My bro is dead. He's gone! But he's right there on my back, and here in my heart! He lives on as a part of me! Honor Michael by posting more of his anime counterparts in the comments below!

Maybe Michael?
Maybe Michael?

RIP

"And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller"
Looks like the thriller finally got him.

You forgot Yukel Hakushon from Nerima Daikon Brothers (here's the youtube vid -- english dubs, which ain't bad actually, but if you hate dubs you'll hate this)  (and the English dub of this one is so much... more... Yukel Hakushon)  -- skip ahead to the 6:00 mark

(the really scary part is Yukel is a recurring character through the last 4 episodes)

@rocketbomber: very nice!

Ima say this again just so yall finally get it.

I need to take care of my sister - who is going through some tough times with the Passing of MJ. Im tired as well, seeing all these happen in the span of a month. Misawa. McMahon, Fawcett and Now Jackson. And as you know or should have known, more love tragedy in my life that continues to show that Im damned in this life to die alone and cold.

All I have is the truth that Tesuka and Miura has given the world, and i will go back to that for a while - and then maybe I will have my heart finally closed to a humanity breeding like rabbits with no remorse no love and no hearts.

To these four who have passed from the sight of human misery,

May God Protect Them and Keep Them.
May God Above Give them the grace they have always desired
May the Lord, the great and terrible King, have the light shine upon these souls,
and finally place them in His Forever-lasting, Perfect and Neverending Peace.

Amen.

@rocketbomber: That was epic man.

Michael Jackson was a big part of my life, even if I was born several years after he became famous I still listened to "Billie Jean" and "Bad" every day, trying to do all of his moves and failling miserably at the moonwalk.

We lost an amazing artist and musician, and beyond all the private cap about his life he still has my umost respect. RIP Moonwalker.

While not Michael Jackson in anime, his video Scream he did with his sister Janet has clips of the anime Zillion. Seems just as anime creators had an appreciation for him, he may have had an appreciation for their work as well.

RIP MJ. You'll be missed.

So orochimaru is dead to right ?
John_Martoneon June 27, 2009 at 9:58 a.m.
@Black_Rose: I learned how to use my falsetto to "Billie Jean" just so I could hit the 'she say's that I am the one." Unsuccessfully tried to learn the thriller dance, I was chunkier till late high school, and would stop to go play video games.

I usually don't like new voices for characters, but although I liked the original Jango voice, I didn't mind when Wataru Takagidid his voice in the Dance Carnival short. and with all the different places Oda got inspiration for the characters in One Piece, its likely Michael Jackson was inspiration for Jango. As for Michel, I cant say I was ever a big fan, but even I cant deny he could really dance and did some good music.

Every Jackson fan should see this short but powerful animated video. It really made me cry.

@kiroshimatsu:
That's not supposed to be Michael.
That's me-mania, some stalker from Perfect Blue.
