AV MOD MATERIAL: BLEACH Ch. 540 Review
After twelve years of BLEACH, Tite Kubo has just blown my freakin' mind. |

I found Witchblade interesting with the mixture it had. I never read the comics or watched the movies/tv series. Much like other series, it's not all that great but it has intrigue.
I really think since DBZ cannot air on Toonami then the block would really benefit from Sentai Filmworks and Section23 series. Shows like Angel Beats!, Dream Eater Merry, Infinite Stratos, and some subtitled series would be good additions to bring in more viewers instead of just going with age-old content like Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop. Hell, even other FUNi titles like Samurai Champloo, Claymore, Negima, and Blassreiter would be good. Toonami should want to air shows that don't get shown or have not been seen on other channels in a long time (since it looks like IFC and SyFy do not show anime anymore). There are other shows that would be cool to have on tv but they would suffer too much from editing that they would lose their feel.
I was disappointed in the Deadman Wonderland anime and forgot to record the first episode but I recorded the second so I could check out the dub. But otherwise, I have no reason to watch Toonami at this point since I have already seen/own/don't care about the series currently in the block.
I love that Toonami is using Richie's song.
I didn't really like that Toonami used to remix the anime in place of their original openings.
I'm sad there was no CASSHERN SINS discussion. I'm actually really digging CASSHERN SINS. I haven't watched this before. Not sure I'll stick with Toonami's dub if I can find it on HULU or FUNimation's site subtitled.
It's schocking how much of the gore they are showing on Toonami for DEADMAN WONDERLAND. I see a lot of hypocrisy that we can see gore but not exposed breasts in anime. Seeing the dismembered head of a high school girl is apparently fine, but nipples will be the ruin of society.
I'm really in love with LUPIN III: FUJIKO MINE. "Sleek"? I can't say that's the first word that comes to my mind when I think of Fujiko. "Ample" is much more suited. The manga was originally a Seinen series. It was intended to be more graphic.
Fan Service isn't double speak. It's the actual term used in Japan for that content. ファンサービス (Fan Saabisu) It's not a U.S. creation.
How can you criticize the WITCHBLADE anime for mixing in violence and sexualization when the comic it's based on did the same thing? Every issue Sara's clothes in the comics were torn to shreds. It's one of the things Micheal Turner is well known for. At least the anime gives the character more depth in trying to be a mother.
@sotyfan16:
I'm just not really liking Greg Ayres work as Ganta. But in all fairness, following in the footsteps of Romi Park is a tall order.
@FoxxFireArt:
Yeah I just finished watching the episode and there are some bad voices. But I knew Ayres as Ganta was going to be bad to begin with. I wish he would do more with his voice than just the 'super annoying, wimpy type'. But surprisingly, I felt the other voices were fine-except for Shiro's. Her VA doesn't bring out the oddities in her character like the Japanese did.
Considering the abundance of online streaming I would have a hard time bothering to watch Toonami during those hours. I wish it could be a highlighted afternoon or primetime block like it used to be. I probably wouldn't watch it, but at least some younger kid that watches Cartoon Network would see it. That's how I learned about anime and several years later I still like anime.
These Vice Pit videos are fantastic.
Personally I'd love to see a Toonami streaming site along with the television block, I think that has the potential to be really cool, but I know it's still early days in the return of Toonami and setting something like that up could be expensive and complicated. Still, it's a nice thought.
Fan Service is definitely double speak for the most part, even if it's the same term Japan uses. The fact is that fan service, 9 times out of 10, basically means there are boobs in this anime. As Tom said, all shows aim to be "fan service" in the general sense, because that's what entertainment is supposed to do; service the fans.
Great video, Sam knows his stuff!
Awesome video! Casshern Sins is good, but it's hard to follow through the fight sequences. I find it awkward. This is my first time of enjoying Casshern Sins without watching it the Japanese version prior. I find the concept of Rust giving robots humanity because they facing death like humans. I find it enjoyable after watching Deadman Wonderland's poor voice acting which is only Greg. Everyone else is okay. I still to need try out the new Lupin III series.
Interestingly, this Toonami incarnation does not have much fan service. So far, I seen action and gore, but I usually fall asleep after finishing Bleach, Deadman Wonderland, Casshern Sins, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood in that order. I'm just too tired to stay awake.
I wouldn't mind Toonami airs Lupin III anime. I can't remember the exact series that aired on channel La 18-2 (UTB Hollywood) in the Los Angeles area last year before Case Closed replace the show. I loved that series.
So wait animevice has a sex expert....so can we expect a vid on how to get women as an anime nerd...I mean I need all the help I can get here....;)
@Daniel_Newton:
I think the only thing standing in the way of Toonami doing a streaming site would be getting the licensing rights. They could never get the catalog that FUNimation, Crunchyroll, Anime Network, and VIZ Anime have.
@takashichea:
CASE CLOSED as it was shown on Adult Swim was an abomination to anyone who knows the real Japanese series. It's almost on par with the 4KIDS version of ONE PIECE. So much of that series was about Japanese culture, but no one in that entire series was Japanese. They had to change so much to localize it. I'm not even going to go into the issue of translation errors the manga has in the US.
I really don't like that this new Toonami cuts out the Shinigami Cups from BLEACH. That's part of the reason you even watch that anime.
Greg Ayres as Ganta is kind of an example of why you see women voicing young boys in Japanese work. It's a lot easier for woman to sound more masculine than for a guy to talk with a higher voice. Though, as I mentioned before. Romi Park is a seriously tough act to follow.
@FoxxFireArt:
I didn't know that. I started watching Adult Swim around in 10th grade (about 7 years ago or so). UTB Hollywood airs Case Closed in Japanese. I never watch the English version yet. I didn't know they drastically change the names like Ran to Rachel. That was weird, Jimmy Kudo. Hopefully, Ganta gets a manlier voice.
Toonami is back and I am happy about it, even though the only thing I watched during the block while growing up was Inuyasha and Hamtaro.
Sam Weller continues to be one of my favorite people I've ever met... He's awesome! Too bad we won't get to hang out this year at AX or SDCC.

You didn't watch Dragon Ball Z? :O
That's a crime sir!
@Daniel_Newton: Never in my life have I watched a DBZ episode... Not interested.
Funny though at least in the more modern James Bond..say 1990 on if they played it any less coy I mean it would be porn wouldn't it..?
Tom... space cowboy? Does that mean this is/or should be your theme song?
awesome comments by the way.
