Tomino Wins the Leopard of Honor

And rides away on it into the sunset.

Yes, you read correctly, Yoshiyuki Tomino has won the Leopard of Honor, which just so happens to be the golden leopard of Zeus himself. Ok I’m full of lies, the Leopard of Honor is Locarno Film Festival’s highest prize they give out. The Locarno International Film Festival is held in Locarno, Switzerland. This festival is known for their open-air screening space in Piazza Gande, which much be really awesome.

Tomino is not the only winner of this festival but director Isao Takahata as well. He’s worked on such great movies like Kiki’s Delivery Service, Grave of the Fireflies, and Castle in the Sky; so he probably deserves it. As you might of guessed this film festival has a lot of anime related things going on with it, and that’s because this year they paid tribute to this wonderful art form; or it’s probably due to the otaku artistic director of the festival who abused his power to do good.

Well congrats Tomino, your simple yet complex story about a boy and a giant robot, evolved into a franchise that is now bigger than Jesus and the Beatles combined.

Oddly enough, Jesus and the Beatles are the rivals in the next Gundam series.
