Word over at ANN is that three publishers in Japan-- Gahousha (Trigun Maximum, Hellsing), Takeshoubo (Gilgamesh, Sci-Fi Harry), and Mag Garden (Mamotte Shugogetten!, Peace Maker Kurogane, Your and My Secret) --are launching a new set of three manga magazines for mobile phones in Japan. They're Young King Alpha, Shin Kindan Grimm Douwa (The True Forbidden Grimm's Fairy Tales), and Blade Alpha, respectively.
"Big whoop," you might say, but they've ALSO announced that they're going to be working to get their manga on cell phones overseas, including North America.
NTT, the mobile provider in Japan, plans to expand into China, India, Europe, and North America via smart phones, including the iPhone-- I guess they won't be offering any of their hard hentai or BL titles!
So, if that has you interested, here's a list of the titles going into the aforementioned mags-- which means they're probably the more likely candidates for overseas versions.
Young King Alpha (Gahousha)
- Shougai Gokudou-den Fukurou: Ikebukuro Violence GraffitiShin Kindan Grimm Douwa (Takeshoubo)
- Ningyohime ~Ai he no Hatenu Omoi~- Kuro no Cinderella ~Ai ni Ue Fukusuhuu no Honou o Moyashite~
Blade Alpha (Mag Garden)
- Peace Maker Kurogane- Akuma no Tsukurikata

I don't know that even American comics have done that well on phones here. It's just too hard to cram our alphabet onto the screen in a way that's legible, compared with more-complicated but more-concise kanji.
