Welcome to part 2 of our ongoing exploration of Revolutionary Girl Utena, and have I got a deal for you. Cutting straight to the chase, Amazon has offerings of this amazing OST for around $7. But, I've gotten ahead of myself, I guess I'm supposed to talk about the sound in Utena.

Truth
Right, wrong, indifferent people just don't notice BGM first. Our earliest and most important impressions are left by the opening and ending animation sequences. That could be good or bad here, considering the variety presented in the soundtrack. For instance, the BGM tends to visit orchestral arrangments and piano jazz more than vocal rock. Though I will take this instance to remind myself how much I enjoy the subtle nature of the ED.

The series rarely presents the softer, prettier side of Utena, and this is a simple reminder of her desire to be the prince's princess. One most underrated anime in recent memory. Forshadowed the Marriage issue between Gay's and Straights and had one of the most fucked up endings ever.

Dig Deeper into Revolutionary Girl Utena

A concurrently created anime and manga series revolving around a tomboyish girl named Utena Tenjou. After being rescued by a Prince as a small child, Utena resolves to be a Prince herself one day. Her ambitions eventually lead her to Ohtori Academy, where she intends to find her lost Prince.
