The Sacred Blacksmith PV is Up!

Looks better than I'd expected. Aria...*drool*

I know, I know, I'm totally behind on getting the summer 2009 anime season preview online-- it's coming very, very soon, I promise!

But let's move past that and into fall for a second, shall we? Seiken no Katanakaji, or The Sacred Blacksmith, is due out this autumn, and its trailer just went online (via Moon Phase). When I first heard news of the adaptation, I wasn't especially excited. It was a fantasy anime based on a popular series of light novels that, as far as I could tell, revolved around a female blacksmith named Cecily, born to a famous blacksmithing family.

It's not entirely clear to me what sort of misadventures Cecily has, although I'm sure they involve her family's ability to make a special sword that can fight demons, and doubtless the rest of the cast she meets: the noble Luke Ainsworth, cute'n'young elf(?) Lisa, and Aria, who, judging from the attitude she expresses in the preview and from her sexy appearance, will probably be a favorite of mine.

The anime is being produced by Manglobe (Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy, Michiko to Hatchin), and directed by Masamitsu Hidaka, of Linebarrels of Iron and Pokemon fame.

As I said, I wasn't especially excited about the project until I saw the PV-- it looks puuuurdy. Although it'd be cooler if Cecily wasn't being saved so heartily by Luke, I suppose. What do you think?

I would have passed if it wasn't being made by Manglobe. I'm a little worried about the director's apparent lack of experience directing anything good, though...

Hmmm... I wonder where that red/white bonnet idea of hers came from.

Seems like a pretty plain show though...

I'm sitting there, enjoying the trailer and these google ads for anvils, knifemaking, and blacksmith forges keep coming up. Too funny. *chuckles*

I suppose if the anime really inspired you...  (hee hee)

umm... maybe I'll watch trailer didn't give me much to go on.

Yeah, I was more or less on board with this one until Luke oh-so-heroically saves Cecily at the end of the trailer. Then again, what can I say, I'm a cynical feminist--I would've been surprised if she wasn't being bailed out of trouble by some Tall Dark and Handsome Swordsman (TM) at some point anyway.

I'm still looking forward to seeing it regardless. It definitely does look pretty.

@HeeroYuy: Nice try; Sacred Blacksmith's novel series started in November 2007; we can assume that it was being worked on at least as early as October '07. Valkyria Chronicles game didn't come out in Japan until April 2008, and even their PR push wasn't until December 2007, as far as I can tell.

More likely coincidence than anything else.

@lanaswift: Lol, ok, you win. I just thought the similarity was amusing...
