The Rest Of It: Another Anime Mystery

And now...a roundup. Enjoy.

So lately I've been really missing my old round-up features, so I'm going to try once again to reincorporate a daily(ish!) round-up into our lives-- the basic gist is that all the stuff that doesn't quite warrant a full article or we don't get to in a day can snuggle in right here and be loved by all of you. Sound good? Good. Let's get going.

Anime

Apparently the studio Daume-- the folks behind the first Minamike (aka the good one) and Ichigo Marshmallow --has announced that they'll be airing a new TV anime this July, but haven't said what it'll be. Mysteeeeerious.

Oh, and a new Da Capo spinoff for Sakura Yoshino, aka the "older" generation of the franchise, has been announced.

Manga

Digital Manga announced today that, uh, they WILL be announcing a new license next week. JUST SO YOU KNOW!

Meanwhile, a trailer is out for the live-action adaptation of the manga Moyashimon, which will be the first live-action series to air in FujiTV's noitaminA slot EVAR!

Aaaand apparently some dude wrote a script for that live-action Ninja Scroll movie we haven't heard anything else about since April 2009. Oh, and he also co-wrote some movie called "Watchmen." Huh.

Cons

Colossalcon announced voice actors Cristina Vee, J. Michael Tatum, Chris Cason, and Leah Clark for their June 3-6 event in Sandusky, OH.

Aaaand Australian Vice Squad members will be excited to know that Animania is hosting a series of festivals throughout the nation, in Sydney (March), Melbourne (April), Brisbane (May), Sydney again (September), Adelaide (October), and Brisbane again (also October). More details are here.

Gossip

If you found the karakuridouji fighting "dolls" of Stan Lee and Hiroyuki Takei's Ultimo a little odd, maybe this will help provide some context: Weird Asia News profiles the karakuri ningyo, mechanical dolls from as long ago as the 1600s in Japan. Iiiiiinteresting!

And that's the end of The Rest Of It...for today. Feel free to offer feedback on the format (or on the news itself, please!) in the comments-- I'm heading out to board game night, so seeya tomorrow! Barring some kind of major news break, of course...

I've read about those ancient mechanical dolls made in Japan. That is very interesting. They even used to have ones in old tea houses that could deliver drinks back and forth.

Also a good excuse to show off this video clip again.

@FoxxFireArt: Hah!

But you know, having read a fragment of the manga now, that's totally not how I imagined Luffy's voice. Huh.

@gia:
Luffy is a little distorted since he's screaming in excitement there. That is from the 7th of the One Piece movies.

Try these random clips from the One Piece anime series. These have a better range of what Luffy sounds like.

@FoxxFireArt: Yeah, i still wasn't expecting Luffy to be voiced by a woman ^^;

@gia:
Well, Luffy is one of the younger members of the crew. If you watch the series she is a perfect match for the personality.

It's just too bad that right now FUNimation is missing many of the best arcs of the anime. A good way to describe One Piece is to remember the fun of Dragon Ball before it became all about the ridiculous power levels and fights. When it was just about Goku traveling around, having wild adventures, and meeting new people. There are no tournaments in One Piece.
