I'm a fan to this day.
But I always figured the island was totally fictional, until I spotted this post from Gigazine. Apparently there really is a "Monkey Island," or rather, a Sarushima (yes, saru = monkey and shima = island). It's uninhabited now, but has a bustling trade of day-trippers interested in the island for its historical value (it used to be a fortress), and/or its pop culture value...it's the island where Shocker, the (fictional) organization that battles the Kamen Riders, maintains their (fictional) base.

It's pretty near to the US naval base Yokosuka, and it also looks really cool. Maybe I'll have to add this one to my list of destinations next time I go to Japan...

I think that`s Nigo vs Garagaranda but the pic is actually to blurry to recognize the actual kaiju involved
