For all that, though, the site has managed to get some words out of the producer of the live-action Bebop film, Erwin Stoff, who talks about the story of the film. So far? It's not the origin story.
Peter Craig is on board to pen the script, and Stoff is quick to note that the story will pick up with Spiegel already in action. “It’s not an origin story,” says Stoff. “We start with him, when he is in his present life already.”
...Which tells us very little, but it's something. Here's some more:
“First of all, we’re honoring the series,” says Stoff. “I don’t know how many people can say this, but the first thing we did was go over and meet with Watanabe. We started there. He will be the first guy to read a script when it’s done. We’ll discuss directors with him. As far as the cast goes, I can’t tell you who is going to play what, but I can’t imagine that we’re not going to have a totally multi-ethnic cast.”

With the live-action film, I imagine they'll use the "red eye" caper as a subplot to introduce the cast; much like episode #1. Then, they'll lead things into the Spike/Vicious/Julia storyline. If Stoff, Craig and [Director-To-Be-Named-Later] tread carefully, they'll could accomplish something worth watching.
Now, that "multi-ethnic" blurb raised my eyebrows. Does this mean Faye's Singaporean background will be considered during casting? That would be nice.
But what about Jet? Hmm, I always through he was bi-racial myself; much like our recenty sworn-in President. Frankly, I'd just like to see them cast well with actors capable of carrying Keanu Reeves through the film. Ethnicity isn't a "be all and end all" with me. But it would be a refreshing change of pace to see on screen.
Wow... maybe this won't be bad at all...
