Clean, harmless sexual harassment, right?

Spring is upon us! Join us as we view new pilots this season, and see where they fit on the highly-scientific Rock-or-Suck Scale… FAIRY TAIL SEASON 2 -- BLACK BULLET

This pilot’s only half-length, and I couldn’t stand it enough to even get to the end. Check-out was probably around the 7:30 mark. It’s not that it’s horrifically awful. I’ve seen worse shows, certainly. And the production value is actually surprisingly slick. The free exchange of cartooning techniques (with colorful half-tones popping in periodically) being the most interesting to look at, for sure.

My patience, however, has totally eroded for that oh-so-particular breed of anime humor where a self-admitted perv goes into cackling, histrionic fits about the mere thought of copping a feel, getting an eyeful or sniffing panties. He’s not fantasizing about chasing girls or having actual sex, mind you. He’s so desperate that he’s fantasizing about being a voyeur.

Sure, that could be a funny character in some ensemble sitcom. I’ve seen too much of this shit, though. I know where the point-of-identification is supposed to be, and I want to wash my hands, now. This was like being forced to tag along with some sadsack who’ll go to absurd, fetishistic lengths to sniff a candy bar wrapper, but is far too timid to ever actually try biting one. When you watch it, you hear the precious seconds of your life, ticking away at a thunderous volume, and you feel this dire, escalating urgency to get out and do something, anything, else.

Pulling up this pilot, I expected it to be another sitcom that preposterously presents manga making as a colorful party - - despite everybody in the crew knowing it’s a drudge. Ironically, it hits closer to reality than you’d hope. I was probably in even less of a mood for this shit because there’s been an ongoing dialog over the past couple years online about sexual harassment in the comics industry. As such, the scenario of a comics artist sexually harassing his assistants seems less like the sort of harmless misunderstanding this show is hyperventilating about with such excitement.

Watch "Perfecting Breasts" and decide for yourself.

I stayed for the whole short episode. Its to short to deliver the misunderstanding part so it comes off bad from the get go. The Mangakite or however ya say comic artist for manga. Has his own little world an the rest of the world just doesn't understand him. Thats why his assistant is not to offended by him. His editor tho doesn't under stand him so she gets to be the worlds reality fist so to speak.

Its meh because of time constraints an set up. Nothing to get in a fuss about. Its just meh. Dropped it from my watch list already :/

To be honest, I didn't see those unfortunate implications of sexual harassment. Reflecting on Tom's article, I feel pretty guilty of enjoying the series. I remember my little sister recommend this show to her anime club back in college. It's cute that she's in anime club. They were trying the anime for the first time before I got to watch it with my sis. She told me that her club hated the show and changed the show to another Spring anime show in the middle. I didn't know why.

I was laughing a lot. I guess my dirty mind must have tainted my sis. I assume her club was not into ecchi shows since I looked at the list of shows they watched: mostly slice of life, comedy, and romance shows. I was surprised that her club is mostly women compared to our community, it's mostly full of guys. I find that interesting.

@takashichea: I did not find it offensive my self. Then again kinda understand what the show was aimed at to.Just feel the time restraints don't give it the room it needs to develop.

Funny thing is take a show like say Sex in the city. It will never be considered sexual harassment from female to male. Make the cast reversed gender roles tho an omg the outrage! Life is wee bit to short for this sort of thing.Honestly much more important things to worry about than that my self.

Like say WW3 starting in Europe Or in Asia.Or the 100s of school girls kidnapped in Africa to be used an abused an converted to a religion . You know real sexual harassment.

Like I said this show is not worth making such a negative fuss over. An again different cultural perspectives here to. Tho some might try an use that defense for honor killings, female mutilations, gender slavery etc.But no crimes were done by the main character.Tho he took a beating by the editor huh?

@Marshal Victory:

Oh, I see. Thanks for your reply. I appreciated it. It's not like those shows that are really controversial like Seikon no Qwaser.

I only got about halfway before I just got bored and left. I've seen enough helpless perverts and clueless/assertive women to know where this show goes from here. You can say I didn't give it the same chance Tom did, but if a show literally begins with the stereotypical desperate pervert act being their only defining characteristic, I have a strange feeling that his personality won't get much deeper form there.
