Tank is a Really Awesome Tune for Marching Bands

So my pal aresef linked me to a recent performance by his school's marching band at Towson University-- they played the Cowboy Bebop opening theme, Tank!, and did a really awesome job with it.

  Nice, eh?

Of course, Towson's not the first school to take on Tank!. Here are a few more I dug up on the ol' YouTube.

What do you guys think? Awesome or no? For those of you who play instruments-- can you play any anime songs?

FYI, these guys are going to be playing the Macy's parade. I don't think they'll be doing "Tank!" there, though. Shame.

@ThePsychoGamer: That is the single most epic band performance I've ever seen.

The Zelda part in the middle of that show brought a tear to my eye. Freakin' brilliant.

Why couldn't we play cool songs like this in my marching band?
yuetheguardianon Oct. 18, 2009 at 10:50 p.m.
while its cool they played tank maybe its because it was not directly centered at the 50 yard line in the video but some of the parts sounded weak and not well played, this from a alumini of a flight A high school marching band with well over a hundred members. The trumpet sections for the most part I wouldn't  even called slurred they were sloppy. I am all about playing geeky music with bands, I tried for several years to get my band director to let me arrange Aylas theme from Chrono  Trigger as a pep band tune for basketball and football games.

@aresef: I would love me some Tank in my Macy's Day parade. If you spot whoever's in charge, tell 'em to do it :D

@gia: I'm sure there are a ton of rights issues involved, since it is the Macy's parade and all. Fight song? Cool. Maryland medley? Easy enough. A Mis Abuelos? Easy enough to track down. Some Japanese jazz song? WHAAARGLBARGL.

Good point. The composers might be flattered, but since it would have to go through all those anime companies...@_@

just to be fair this was performed in a DOWNPOUR. considering the conditions i think people should cut them a break on sound quality

Yeah, I am in the Pit here at Towson, we aren't playing this at the Macy's day Parade, we are playing some Chase Melody, but this iwas one of the funnest pieces to practice and preform. We have a better quality video on the Towson Marching Band Page on Facebook with electronics and Vocals. This isn't one of our best preformances of this piece, but this is from a flip camera (check the youtube video) we have a professional crew in the Pressbox every game. In a downpour in 40 degree weather the trumpets did amazing
