Taiwan Murders Mimicking Battle Angel?

An awful tale of violence, officially attributed to a manga.

Boy, how long has it been since we've seen some kind of violence blamed on a franchise other than Death Note? Not that I'm expressing any kind of relief-- this is an awful story.

An ANN reader tipped them off to Taiwanese newspaper reports that a man had killed a landlord, maimed the landlord's family, and then claimed he was “mimicking a manga.” The manga in question is GUNNM, released in the US as Battle Angel Alita.

It's interesting to note that the Taiwanese publisher of GUNNM, Tong Li, issued a statement that their staff were combing through the manga to ensure that there was no hidden message encouraging any such act. Can you imagine VIZ even suggesting that there was such a possibility in Death Note? Just an interesting cultural difference there, I suppose. I also wonder if this will have any impact on the long-promised-never-delivered James Cameron Battle Angel movie?

And of course, if the reports are true, that means that the suspect himself blamed a manga, as opposed to manga being found in his apartment or something along those lines and the media stringing together the information to sell papers.

Most importantly, of course: condolences to the victims and their family.

What the hell? This is just sad in many ways. But I'll try to make it quick. How does he make the connection of his lust of killing to the title Battle Angel Alita? Yes there is quite a lot of killing in the series. But the tone of the story is not about the killing but the Idea of chaos and order, right and wrong, and can one find peace in a mad world. Well that for all of us to talk about later for this great series. The only way I can see why he getting in to this series is because his interest in death (or killing) he has. The very idea that he, himself, is blaming a part of behavior on an inanimate object is showing that he is a coward and can't face that he has done.

I love the series Battle Angel Alita and wish nothing bad would ever come to it. Read it, it’s good.

Mimic how exactly. Battle Angle is a long manga and there could be a lot to mimic lets just some list the things:
1) The use of a Rocket hammer to dispatch foes
2) Knowing a long lost cyborg art of the Panzer Kunst
3) Brain eating
4) thinking you collecting a bounty on their heads as a hunter warrior
5) Using plasma as a weapon
6) Sealing victims spinal column
7) The use of Maschine Klatsch
8) The conduct of inhuman experiments in the name of science (With nano machines)
9) Unlock a Bizerker body to it true form
10) The use of cyborgnetic dogs
11) The use of 'Tuned' equipment such as mono-mecular wire, Arachno (Spider granads), Missle Bees, or a Solenoid Quench Gun
12) The use of water at super sonic speed to cut almost anything.
13) using a child-like doll as a bomb.
14) The use of a Titan or Damascus Blade
15) Having Psychometry powers
There is a lot more but I think you get the point.
