Sweet or Scary? Kugimiya Fans Line Up VERY Early

An undisclosed number of fans of voice actress Rie Kugimiya lined up 25 days before her appearance is scheduled.

Word at ANN is that seiyuu Rie Kugimiya-- most famous for her tsundere girls like Zero no Tsukaima's Louise and Shakugan no Shana's, um, Shana, as well as for voicing Al Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist (and Brotherhood) --has an appearance coming up in Taipei, Taiwan, and fans are already lining up to see her.

The only problem is that the exhibition doesn't start until January 27th.

And these fans have been lined up since January 3rd.

And it's about 50°(F) out there.

See, Kugimiya will be doing a limited signing of about 150: 50 people can buy a special Shana ceramic plate to be signed for about $85 USD, and another 100 will get them if they line up. The plates sold out in 30 seconds online, with so many simultaneous orders coming in that 11 of those 100 plates had to be given to buyers, leaving only 89 for people waiting in line.

Still, though. That's devotion. I mean, we're talking about fans having to try and find places to sleep where security patrols-- not find of overnight lines --won't bother them.

ANN talked to three of the fans in line, two of whom got to know Kugimiya via Zero no Tsukaima and one via Shana. As you can imagine, they've spent a LOT of money on various merchandise relating to the series and to Kugimiya. But this...this is really, really impressive.

Just one more time for perspective: lining up 25 DAYS before the event.

Damn.

Well, who doesn't love Rie Kugimiya?

Okay.....that's a trifle bit creepy. It is rather important to know what the weather is in Taiwan in January. I know that the Northern part of the island experiences it's rainy season in January. It's monsoon season from January through March,

I don't pre-order tickets for movies. Not a chance in hell I would camp out for twenty-five days to get a bloody plate signed.

@metalsnakezero: I adore her, but...25 days? No showers? Eating out the whole time? Probably no Internet? I'd DIE! T-T

@FoxxFireArt: According to Google it is currently 64°, with a high of 71° and a low of 57°, sunny weather. So, it's not insane, but rain IS coming up for the weekend, probably. @_@

Damn 25 days, that just insane. So I guess that where are going to see some report of the peoples that are waiting in line.
Void_Wizardon Jan. 15, 2010 at 9:35 a.m.
I'd do it if I had no obligations whatsoever.

@gia:
Well, even if today is nice. There is 25 days for things to go really bad. Take into account that it is monsoon season. So when it rains it really pours.

Those are some die hard fans.  I love her voice work, but I wouldn't line up 25 days in advance.
Sigueon Jan. 15, 2010 at 11:43 a.m.
That's definitely creepy.

Scary.  I would wait in line for someone like Stan Lee for 12 hours, but to wait for 24 days.

What is this a Duke Vs. North Carolina college basketball game.  Those fan's wait for over month to see that game as well.

50F is way warmer than where I am at least...

I'm a Kugimiya Rie fan too and all, but.... I mean, I don't think you could get to me to wait someplace for a month even if Nasu Kinoko and Takeshi Takeuchi were coming to my town...

You know what is scarier than rabid Japanese fans though?

Rabid Korean fans.  I went to an Epik High (korean hiphop group) concert once and thought a girl was going to kill me and ritually eat my heart if I didn't get out of her way in approximately three seconds, because I was blocking her view of Tablo.  They take their idols REAALLLLLY seriously as well.
