Summer 2014 Anime Report -- SWORD ART ONLINE II + TOKYO ESP + RAIL WARS + YAMISHIBAI

THE VICE PIT. Where did these new shows land on the Rock or Suck Scale?

From the ones you talked about Sword Art Online 2 is the one I'm currently watching. Kinda being too hard with it on the MMO part but like I said before there other elements you'll not enjoy from the show.

Rail Wars! has a odd world set up. Its based on a light novel.

Its set up as "dream railway paradise entertainment" story is set in a parallel world where Japan did not privatize its national railways. Naohito Takayama is an ordinary high school boy who dreams of a comfortable future working for the top-rated Japanese National Railways. He is assigned as a trainee in the Railways Security Force full of odd characters such as Sakurai, a troublemaker who hates men. On top of that, an extremist group called "RJ" plots to privatize the Japanese National Railways. source http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-12-24/rail-wars-action-light-novels-get-anime But it really is the 1st ever train / harem / fan service anime. An no the trains do not look that bad. They are cgi tho.

Tokyo ESP front loaded the story an the manga fans are kinda ticked about it. Tho surprised Tom did not like this as it gets right to the action. Would bet ya would like episode 2 much more. An the series may or may not be a love letter to the x men. Also think of the pilot as a flash forward episode.

Sword Art Online II eh yeah more than bit harsh on it. The game world is set in a Borderlands 2 type game. Or at least some where between Warframe an Borderlands 2.

An no you can not take something for granted in anime about it looking good. Even with all the computer help an digital aids still see animation quality drop as well as poor coloring. Overuse of hue saturation or poor animation of movement. An cgi that sticks out from the shows art style. Quality animation can never be taken for grated an should always be praised.

Side note appreciate the stressing that it was your opinions an not what every one else should think.

I still need to watch Rail Wars and Tokyo ESP. @Marshal Victory: told me it was one of three gorey shows of the summer. Need to complete the trinity.

Sword Art Online was 2 cour (SAO and then ALFheim). They did the second season numbering because it was separated. That's my best guess. I do find Sword Art Online 2 average, but I still watch it. I don't know why.

@takashichea: Average anime is greater than average broadcast tv by miles. Or at least that would be my guess. So far for me its a bit better than average but I like mmorpgs an understand some of the subtle stuff related to them.

I've only been watching SAOII out of everything here, and so far, I think it has potential to be pretty fun. I was somewhat disappointed that they kept Kirito as a swordsman, despite the fact that it's a gun game, but the way he has fought so far is pretty cool, and since he uses a pistol to back up his sword style... well, idk, it's okay so far, and I'm pretty sure it will be really exciting to watch in the future, I just wish they would have gone all guns on this.

The sniper chick has some potential as her in game persona, but her out of game persona is kind of... odd to me, I suppose. They gave reasons for why she is the way she is, and why she does what she does, but it's still odd, and has since become a bit of a joke between me and my friend (we watch the show together).

"Ah, had a good day shooting people in that game, and had a nice big lunch, better go check to see if I'm still afraid of guns... yup, definitely still afraid" *vomits everywhere*

Otherwise, aside from SAOII, I watched through all of No Game No Life yesterday, and I REALLY enjoyed that.

I'm beginning to think I should just get into reading visual novels.

Micro series was the only one that interested me here and nothing here changed that. Why the limit on time though? I could certainly sit and listen to you all talk about these for longer....and as mmo's getting real has been overdone much like vampires and now zombies in western media not being to harsh on it I would say. More of the same is pretty much the worst criticism you can give something. Being new doesn't mean something works certainly but new is certainly always better than copying the old.

I got a chance to try Tokyo ESP. It was pretty good if you like Espers vs humans. First episode was a cold open. Saw the real show in ep. 2 packed with regular stuff you see in anime, gifted folks learning to use their powers for good along with fan service scenes.
